I use to watch him on "Almost Live," a local sketch comedy show in Seattle.

I think "Ellen" basically connotes Ellen Degeneres now (if you just say that name with no other reference for a famous person), if for no other reason than she's had two shows now that are just called "Ellen".

Same thing with Roseanne, and Rosie, and Regis. Whether fair or not.

/ i think you already knew that tho

He won it in a cage match with Beakman. Twice. That's the reason why they had to replace the assistants, Beakman had to steal their souls in order to survive.

/And there was no way he was taking the Rat's soul.

For once, could we stop linking to someone's blog that gushes over what they read on another blog, fapping as they paraphrase and quote a paragraph or two? Straight to the goddamned articles in question, thanks.

This is actually of interest to me. In part because I feel the world lacks a current Bill Nye for the up and coming generation, and I admit it would be awesome to figure out if I could be a simillar role model.

/If not, a nobel prize would also be nice.

He does pretty good as the "public face of physics", but Bill Nye and Mr Wizard were particularly important for getting people at very young ages.

Another little known fact is that one of his other neighbors is Beakman. They play up a faux rivalry from my understanding but are actually good friends. He also hangs out with the hologram doctor from Voyager.

He fun, interesting and makes science approachable.

BTW, I'm not saying that he is the replacement, just that I think he could be.

Gecko Gingrich: BTW, I'm not saying that he is the replacement, just that I think he could be.

He could be. He certainly has the personality for it, as well as the ability to explain tough concepts in common language. For adults, he's great. For kids, is there really an equivalent to Mr Wizard, Bill Nye, or even Beakman's shows about science for kids? I think it's cee important to have shows like those, which explain the basics of science to kids and offer a lot of "try this at home" hands-on experiments.

I don't remember how I managed somehow to get my hands on a local comedy show from Seattle, but I did see it when it was fairly recent. I liked it. It was a bit strange to me when I discovered that one of the cast had become a Science Guy. Still is.

That's crazy talk. Given the choice, which do you think Fark would rather link to:

1) An original article
2) A news report about the original article
3) An aggregator that republishes the news report
4) Some bozo's blog that copypasta's the aggregator.

The same way Homer Simpson became Mr. Plow, he wrote a jingle.

IIRC, he managed to have a class with Carl Sagan. Not quite like Neil DeGrasse Tyson who was scouted to Cornell by Sagan.

Here's Bill Nye doing a falling elevator test about 16 years before MythBusters.

Elevator Safety

That show also did the bit about the universal remote about two decades before Adam Sandler.

Screw trying to return Discovery & TLC to their former glory. We need a goddamn Bill Nye, The Science Guy channel.
