They are "people" or active accounts?

2012-10-04 05:28:55 PM
I actually find myself using google+ more than FB these days...

Keep laughing, but fact is Google+ is growing and Facebook is not (at least not domestically).

They can't tell the difference consistently, and if they claim otherwise they are lying.

I have a Googl+ account. Even with acess to my gmail account Google+ has only managed to find about 3 people I know all of which turnd out to my son's teachers. So I have an all celebrity circle and I look through to a few times a week in search of hot pictures.

Oh man, Facebook is already miserable due to the election. My friends are starting to disappear from it, and I want to as well.

Then again, facebook started counting deactivated users to boost its bottom line. Right after the stock plunged..hmmmmmmm

Google+ is looking better everyday. If only because various family members I'd rather not interact with are of the same mindset as subby over there.

Isn't google counting every gmail user? Since that gives you 'an account'?

Yeah. That's like when the Jehovah's Witnesses say that they doubled their numbers while the Catholic Church only grew 2%. It's really not as impressive as it first sounds when you consider the relative scale.

I'm on Google+ but I honestly don't know anyone else that is! A handful of Fark people, but no IRL people!

If Googles stock price was only driven by it's social media attempt, the stock would be worth $2.00.

Google+ is doomed to failure. Just like Ping. They never had a chance to begin with. But both are from good companies with a lot of other stuff to worry about

G+ has a much better signal to noise ratio than FB IMO.

1 circle for Science, where each day I find more in-depth news than I could in a week on mainstream "news" sites, another for geeky/gaming stuff (tabletop minis, pathfinder, Wil, Felicia Day, etc) and then another for people who shall not be named.

Facebook it's just a constant barrage of drek that can't be easily filtered.

Facebook, where the noise is the signal.

Not to mention the fact that social media is only one small part of Google... Google+ didn't work out? Oh darn. I guess we'll just go back to ruling all the other industries we're in...

I think that would make it more than 10 Million users. Gmail is widely used, they even cater to business.

With the way FaceBook is going, I might actually expect their official response to include "Lulz". The outfit seems like it's run by 9th graders.

I would possibly consider a smaller social network with a few people I know currently. With FB, everyfarkingbody I ever met can find me and friend me and I felt obligated to keep up and "like" all their stupid little updates lest they be offended. It became a chore after a while.

What's the difference between Facebook and G+?

I have an account on G+

2012-10-04 10:34:59 PM
Google Groups is something I've started using a lot... the format isnt really all that special, but it seems to be the place everyone comes together to organize... well, groups.

Has helped me meet a lot of cool local people with similar interests.

Also, I have a feeling that Facebooks version of "active" users differs from what I would consider active. I have a facebook account... I log in every few weeks just for the sake of seeing if I have a message (i havent gotten a FB message in at least a year), but as for posting or reading and actually using the site... nah.

Sadly, Facebook's stock should be worth $5-10 a share if it's price was only driven by its social media attempt.

I don't know what 'it' is. I've never understood 'it'.

'It' is what made some kids cool in high school while others were lame. It decides when a fashion trend goes from being 'super lame' to 'super awesome' - while not actually changing at all. 'It' convinces guys to wear skin-tight girl's jeans.

'It' is absolutely retarded. It's the result of a million people with hands on a proverbial ouija board.

'It' is why Facebook is popular.

I use G+ and Facebook. I constantly hear people biatch about how much they hate Facebook. 'TIMELINES?! OMG! I HATE FACEBOOK'. These same people mock Google+ so no reason other than 'Nobody uses it, lolz'. That's it. That's all the negative I've ever heard. People who actively claim to hate Facebook could use this alternative that is, at least, as technically sound (if not more so) but they won't. Because not enough other people do. It's super easy to use. You can even set it up so that you use both (which is what I do; everything is cross posted); but no. It's not popular, so they can't use. Because they don't use it, it's not popular.

If I had any faith left in humanity, I wouldn't anymore.

except that you are pretty much wrong about what "made" facebook.

what "made" facebook was the mass exodus from myspace - because myspace had went from being "the" social network to being a virus laden explosion of garbage with poorly formatted pages that would burn your eyes out. facebook came along and gave the masses something identical, but that looked professional. slowly, it bled the myspace users off until facebook became "the" social network.

at this point, facebook has been accepted by the mass media and by corporate america. it works, it is free, it looks professional, and it integrates everything that social media hubs need to integrate. if used properly it is very nice for what it is and does. there is no need at this time for another social network because facebook fills the need, and everyone that uses social media pretty much uses it. at this point, the only attraction G+ has is that it is NOT facebook.... which really isn't a good enough reason to make people jump ship. people left myspace for facebook NOT because facebook wasn't myspace, but because myspace SUCKED.

facebook doesn't suck. it does what it should and does it well.

There is truth to this. For instances, I joined an excellent photography circle, lots of helpful, useful info.

On face book, it's more about MySpace angles and captioned cat photos.

"Google+, all the captioned cats, less of the myspace angles"

Google isn't actually quoted in the article. The last time I heard a number for G+, though, it was somewhere in the 100-300m range. Facebook may not see them in the rearview just yet, but Google's been integrating stuff to encourage use. I just got asked if I wanted to connect my blog (on Blogger) to my G+, and there were some benefits to doing so.

But Google rarely states any kind of stats on G+ usage, and external estimates come in low because they're naturally limited to measuring activity based on things that are posted publicly.
