Do you know why that Collegehumor video gets posted in every Tim Burton thread?

Because it never stops being accurate.

About damn time,Burton.

I'm not even a big Burton fan, but don't most people who pay attention to movies and behind-the-scenes stuff (i.e. most of Fark) already know the story behind this?

eh Heh heh heh... I get it. Frankenweenie. Oh subby you are so darned clever.

I thought Bobbitt already did a porno.

The funniest thing about it all is that he was fired from Disney over the original short film, but they're putting out the feature-length remake.

Fixed that for you. It's hilarious, and I say that as a fan of his. But it's only middling accurate. While he has certain stylistic conventions that are amusing to mock, there's a decided difference in tone between most of his works. Other than being easily identifiable as Burton's work stylistically, there is little similarity in tone, story, topic, or message between his Batman, Beetlejuice, Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, or Sweeny Todd. Of them Beetlejuice and Scissorhands come closest to having the same message, but they take it from opposite sides of the issue.

Eh. I don't really give a shiat what that douche from Edward Scissorhands is doing these days.

I really wish he would stop adapting other people's works (or in this case, remaking his own) and start doing original films again. Corpse Bride was his last film that was wholly his own, and it's beginning to feel that just because it didn't do that well, he can't risk doing any original or untested properties anymore - hence Willy Wonka, Sweeney Todd, Alice, Dark Shadows.... Why else go back and expand on Frankenweenie? Where's the guy that gave us Beetlejuice?

It's like Kevin Smith returning to Clerks after Jersey Girl bombed.

And like the classic story, Sparky comes back as a stitched-together sack of flesh, which gives the small suburban town the fright of its life.

He was a producer on Cabin Boy, so I cut him some slack just for the Big Fatass Floating Cupcake That Spits Tobacco.

No, the funniest thing about this is that the commercials are proclaiming it as "fresh Burton" material.

Perhaps returning to his roots did the visionary director a great service since this "Frankenweenie" is the best Burton film in well over a decade.

IDK, Big Fish was excellent.

Better be some fresh in there, or it'll be a pretty short feature film.

And they initially deemed The Nightmare Before Christmas too dark to have the Disney name on it and released it under the Touchstone banner. Now, they're all too happy to sell it as a Disney film.

Big Fish was the last original thing he made. There are good moments in Frankenweenie, but overall it's just Burton treading old ground.

There are a significant amount of moviegoers that enjoy Tim Burton films. Bemoaning him as formulaic is a logical fallacy as the plots are NOT formulaic, yet his style is consistent. Heaven help us that Blake Edwards, Kubrick and Hitchcock didn't have to deal with arm-chair internet critics.. we'd have lost some serious treasures. Movies are for more than you, Mr. Sole opinion. I swear the entertainment tab has degenerated into a "It's hip and witty to bash things that other people enjoy, so invade the thread and lets bash this" festival. flame on and mock me, but Drew really needs to ed rid of this tab if that's all you folks are capable of anymore.

Big Fish was based on a book too. Most of Burton's films are based on something else. The Batman movies, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, The Corpse Bride (old Russian folk take), Planet of the Apes, Wonka, Sweeney Todd, Alice, Dark Shadows, Sleepy Hollow. His only original films are Pee-Wee, Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands.

So what was in the original "Frankenweenie" that got Burton fired from Disney?

Except it was based on a book. Good movie though.

It's like when your favorite band comes out with a new album and they tried something new musically and you say "Man, I wish they would stick with sound they got famous for" or they their new record sounds like the last one and you say "Man, those guys are a one trick pony". There is just no pleasing some people. So in the immortal words of Rick Nelson 'You can't please everyone, you gotta please yourself'. I will watch this movie with pleasure and enjoy myself if I like it.

My GF agrees with you. I'll admit I was stretching that one a bit because it was an original story and did not use the characters from The Pee-Wee Herman Show.
