Another rise in unemployment due to this job-killing President!

Obama destroys a social media job.

I can't say that with a straight face. I don't consider this a real job. I'd rather tell people I'm a barista. How much do these tweeter people get paid and who are they?

based on recent news headlines, they're all dumbasses.

I mean, first of all, they're stupid enough to not sign out of their company account before posting something

second of all, they post something completely offensive. and not funny, or interesting.

You should fire that guy at the Kitchen Appliance Naming Institute also

Why would anyone follow Kitchen Aid? Do they tweet sales? I don't use Twitter so maybe I'm missing something.

I follow the tweets of all major appliance manufacturers, in case something like this happens.

I have a Twitter account I've never used. So, can someone tell me if is fairly easy to accidentally tweet while logged in to the wrong account?

I mean seriously, do these idiots think no one monitors Twitter?? I get that the anonymity of the internet emboldens some people, but some people should really look up what ANONYMITY actually means.

KitchenAid's new funeral promo went incredibly wrong.

They were trying to flog a third option to the current pair of burial and cremation -- blending. They've been doing small mixers for decades.

With all the excitement about Jimmy Hoffa, they wanted to show that you no longer need to bury someone under a driveway, they can be directly mixed into the driveway.

Professional twitter poster is something I put lower than a 40 year old burger flipper, in terms of failure and waste of life.

I can see some companies offering discounts, or promotions through social media. I know people that 'like' just about every company they come in contact with on Facebook in an effort to get a deal.

2012-10-04 11:24:53 AM
Company tweets should only come from one machine with no keyboard. Official account follows only a few secondary accounts the official tweeter can copy/paste from.

Too many companies hopped on this social media bandwagon without realizing what a huge farking liability it can be if not monitored properly. Every tweet is basically seen as company policy.

I bet a huge chunk are bots and other businesses that want to see who is interested in KitchenAid. And most people signed up through some kind of promotion, like "follow us on twitter and be entered into a raffle to win..."

Tweeting isn't the entirety of anybody's job. This was probably a customer service rep who also answered questions for customers via Twitter. Idiot.

They owned up to it, admitted it happened, and apologized. I'm satisfied.

There are also companies that have thousands of accounts you can pay to "follow you" just to up your numbers. My friend paid them $5 on a lark and has 9000 followers.

Saw the initial tweet in my daily news crawl and agreed it was offensive. Didn't initially see the followup apology tweets, following that revelation, the company handled it more than acceptably. Non-issue, not outraged, the person got what he deserved. Now on to the more important discussion, what do I put on my resume to get in on this public relations, tweeting desk job scam?

I know people who are in Public Relations and it's actually pretty demanding and often requires long hours.

Also, most of the jobs are on urban areas where $60k is good but not great money for a profession that you need a college education just to even have your resume looked at.

Saw this last night. What a vile thing to tweet - regardless of political affiliation. The company did the respectable thing. The guy, however, should be ashamed.

He won't be.
But he should.

Let's take in the pure awesomeness of the tweet -

@KitchenAidUSA: "Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president"."??? Wow!" #nbcpolitics

Isn't this the grandma that Obama thru under the bus and called her racist as he was healing the country with his race speech?

Funny things happen on twitter sometimes. This was one of them.

Every politician or celebrity who has to make a public apology should read the company's response. That's how it's done.

I know a good number of JD or masters degree people working in a largish city making less as temps, without steady work, and without benefits.

$60k + bennies would be a major upgrade.

But if you use an alt, you're theoretically using one computer, at home. If you're tweeting for a corporation, I'd think you're at work, using their computer. How stupid do you have to be to use a work computer to tweet a possibly offensive message and not double-check to make sure you're correctly logged on?

/Yes, I know you don't have to be in KitchenAid's office to be a social media specialist or whatever the fark they're called.
//Telecommuting seems to have died off a bit in recent years. I deal w/Fortune 500 companies on a daily basis and almost nobody telecommutes, regardless of their job function. Corporations seem to want everyone to be in the office lately.

2012-10-04 03:21:54 PM
That was an unusually competent handling of an apology from a corporation.

Not if you use something like Hootsuite, which allows you to manage multiple twitter accounts at once. Hootsuite is very popular for big time social media people. How it works is you write your message, then before you send it you click on the button for whichever account you want it to send from. The buttons are very small and it's easy to hit the wrong one when you're quickly sending multiple messages from multiple accounts.

I have several twitters, One was a fake right wing Super PAC that was part of a web series about the founding fathers trapped in present day America. I had a ton of derpy followers who retweeted my nonsense, but I once mistakenly tweeted something that was supposed to come from my personal account. It wasn't especially controversial though so I don't think anyone noticed.
