Tr0mBoNe: Or you don't speed.
Tobin_Lam: Tr0mBoNe: Or you don't speed. There are some roads that I drive where you'd get run over if you didn't go at least 15 over.
PluckYew: Cars need some sort of Fermi cage that blocks phone signals. You assholes are going to kill me./my lawn, it's a phone-free zone
Rambino: Was that an article or an ad?also, Waze provides similar functionality, along with other more useful stuff.
ErnieBert: Try Waze.It does it all plus a lot more and its free.
IamSoSmart_S_M_R_T: Speed traps are set up in areas where the speed limit often changes suddenly and more than a simple 5mph (say, from 65mph to 40mph) and not always obviously. Out-of-towners aren't aware of the large limit differential, and usually get screwed by the local popo who sets up radar just for that purpose. It's all about the revenue.
dwyw: Like sharing your location with other users without any way of disabling it? Where do I sign up??
PluckYew: Fermi cage
IamSoSmart_S_M_R_T: FTA: "We are very concerned about the public using apps that would take their hands and eyes off the road," [Diedra Samuels] told KTRH."Yeah, because it's not like people use GPS devices or maps on their phones. Non-issue, except that it takes money out of the popo's coffers, which is what Ms. Samuels is truly concerned about.Tr0mBoNe: Or you don't speed.Speed traps are set up in areas where the speed limit often changes suddenly and more than a simple 5mph (say, from 65mph to 40mph) and not always obviously. Out-of-towners aren't aware of the large limit differential, and usually get screwed by the local popo who sets up radar just for that purpose. It's all about the revenue. Here's an article about a town that was a notorious speed trap. FTA: "They ticketed motorists for speeding. They ticketed them for tailgating and for failing to signal a turn. They stopped motorists who grazed the white lines on the shoulder of the road. They pulled over truckers and tourists and little old ladies who were in no particular hurry and swore they had never sped a day in their lives. One officer threatened to ticket a boy on his bicycle. Another pulled over a man riding horseback. Seems neither had a taillight."If you weren't local," said Cindy Meads, a waitress at Bonnie's Restaurant here, "you got a ticket. That's pretty much the way things worked."Sound like a pretty good reason to have an app that would show you to avoid this town like the plague! In any event, what's wrong with an app that encourages people to obey the speed limit? It's similar to people flashing their lights to warn oncoming cars that the popo is right down the road. It gets drivers to slow down, so that's a bad thing? Oh wait, it cuts into their "taxation." Got it.
Cthulhu_is_my_homeboy: PluckYew: Fermi cageI think you mean Faraday cage. A Fermi cage would block out extraterrestrial signals from reaching.... Oh my God. You just solved Fermi's Paradox.
