Keep sucking each others dicks, Republicans.

You've got this election IN THE BAG! IT'S GOING TO BE SUCH A LANDSLIDE, YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO GO VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6TH!

2012-10-04 10:17:07 AM
And all you had to do to win the debate was contradict every single thing you've said for the past six months thirty years and relentlessly lie about your own policies and those of your opponent.

Nothing to spin - Obama got beat, badly. Just have to hope the political scientists are right and it won't hurt him too much.

From what I see, they look like "Wow, Obama really sucked, what the hell was he doing out there" and generally unhappy with the performance.

Is there something I'm missing?

they aren't calling for his immediate resignation and the installation of Sarah Palin as Empress, so they are obviously trying to spin the loss into a win.

He was terrible and Romney was great (if you ignore substance and just focus on preentation). Obama clearly, CLEARLY did not want to be there, either because of his anniversary or Turkey/Syria or whatever. The President was terrible.

No, it's not trollage. Romney did way better than anyone expected and Obama looked like he was struggling. However, there wad nothing of substance to Romney's debate--everything was either outright lies ($716B stolen from Medicare! Death Panels!) or the same garbage he's been spouting for months ("I'm going to repeal everything you've passed and replace it with something almost identical that will be better and cheaper, but I'm not going to supply details!")

Why Obama didn't call him on his BS is beyond me. Obama spent most of his time telling anecdotes about people he'd met along the campaign trail than anything else. He was definitely off his game.

Nate Silver's has dropped President Obama's chances of re-election down to 96.7%,

Panic.

Look Cons, I'll admit it sucked to watch Obama not deliver last night. I wish he had called Romney out on all his blatant lies, and I wish he was more forceful.

Go ahead- have your moment. We'll talk after the foreign policy debate when Obama points out that he took out Bin Laden and Romney actually farked up a trip to London.

2012-10-04 10:54:51 AM
The Obama team tweets after the debate were adorable. Almost like the debate didn't occur.

Whoever said that the Obama campaign was running the prevent defense had it right. I said before the debate that Obama just needed to sit back and avoid saying something that could be manipulated by the Romney campaign ("You didn't build that"), but I don't think I or Obama saw Romney coming out the way he did and just bulldozing over the whole debate.

The silver lining is that many Romney's money men won't abandon him now in favor of the downfield races. If Obama and Biden can come back strong in future debates, that's time the GOP won't get back.

It's also money that other races won't get. And those Congressional races are as important as the Presidential race.

To be honest, I thought I would see Romney implode. Half way through, it looked like Romney was starting to lose his shiat and I felt Obama could have pushed him over the edge but just couldn't be bothered to.

because often calling out someone for their dishonesty is a waste of time - their supporters will eat up the lies like popcorn, your supporters know their lies, and the neutrals are likely to listen to fact checkers.

Also, accusing someone of lying can make you look desperate, and allows Romney to say that the President has no ideas of his own and is falling back on ad hominem.

It is EXTREMELY difficult to debate someone who does so in bad faith and with a smile.

He didn't do that during the 2008 debates, either. He was Candidate Doormat then, he's President Doormat now. It's disappointing, but perhaps should have been expected.

So I see that the "full retard" article from Slate a few days back was apparently an indication of a coming trend and not a fluke after all.

Impressive cognitive dissonance to literally publish quotes where Obama campaign officials say that they think the president did pretty well an Romney presented himself as the worse choice and then just continue writing as if they said something indicative of a lack of confidence, though. That's some impressive dedication to the "it's a close race" narrative you've go there.

I'd thought about that as well. I don't see how Obama could have done better by using all of his time to say "Governor Romney is lying", the response to which would be a smile and another lie, when it won't make a difference to 99.7% of the people watching.

The foreign policy debate:

Obama: Thanks to my embracing intelligence gathered through torture, I successfully ordered the assassination of an unarmed man in front of his family while violating the territory of a nation that never attacked us, all the while taking credit for my predecessor's scheduled withdrawal from Iraq.

Romney: I won't sponsor sub-saharan african genocide in Libya and then let our Ambassador be assassinated by Al-Qaeda while blaming free speech and the 1st Amendment.

I wondering bout this. Is the tea party and base really going to allow him to get away from this?

All my Romney supporter friends have already swiveled on a dime, and say this has always been Romneys MO. Apparently they're ok with communism now?

2012-10-04 12:18:22 PM
Is it me or did Obama have to answer first on pretty much every question? (I also hated all the anecdotes.)

2012-10-04 12:19:17 PM
LOL. The Republican candidate just contradicted every single thing he's stood for this entire campaign -- completely betraying all of the Republican voters who have supported him until now.

The only person who is spinning is Mitt on the issues. Enjoy this little taste of "victory," though. In a few weeks Etch-A-Sketch will be a footnote.

What I expect next is an increase in attack ads mentioning the Mormoness of Romney, and that he has ties to Big Business, and how his dog wouldn't vote for him.

But other than some over-zealous attacks from the Obama campaign, I doubt the debate will change anything.

Kazan: so basically he wasn't full of his typical vim, and romney was lying faster than you could fact check?

Confidently lying, at least at first. After that, it was just brazen. Other than that, you have a near-perfect summary.

Honestly, I'm wondering if Obama got any sleep the last few nights. He had the facts, he had the substance, but was slow to present it and didn't exactly inspire. Sadly, people value pathos over logos in modern debates--which is why they're not much use for anything except entertainment.

2012-10-04 12:20:33 PM
I don't buy the rope-a-dope theory. I think the Obama campaign got a little cocky and thought that they could just run out the clock. That said, Romney's win last night was the equivalent of a hail mary TD pass while down by 21 with 10 minutes left in the game. The Obama campaign still has the superior ground game and there's plenty of time to move on from this debate.

Not content with a victory, the Republicanus Minoritus must point at it's victim and declare "Neener, Neener. Look at him, and the way he is defeated! Ha! Ha!"

If it does not do this, a backlog of bile can build up inside the creature and kill it.
