NB: "Obama REFUSES to recognize that cutting tax rates usually leads to increased tax revenues. Why won't Romney hit this point? "

Uh...because that's not true. We had the Bush cuts, which Obama reluctantly extended. What do we have as a result?
Highest number of uber-rich people, companies holding on to record amount of cash...money not moving.

If Neal is here (or someone in agreement with him), PLEASE cite an example where supply-side economics works. Tell us when things "trickled down".
It's probably the biggest ruse in history, purported by the mega-wealthy.

Lots of mitigating factors. Kerry won debate 1 in 2004, that didn't help him win over all. Obama did not gaffe, he only let Romney talk too much and wasn't aggressive enough. Romney came off as aggressive and this turns some people off.

All that being said, I think the collective mood of Obama supporters was somewhere between WTF and WTF.

Every cliche you can say about Obama's negatives: That he can't talk without a prompter, that he is aloof, that he doesn't give a crap about middle America, that he is in over his head, that he can't lead... all came through.

Romney came off like either a smarmy car salesman closing a deal or a corporate executive telling employees they wouldn't be laid off they'd be right sized.

The sucky thing is, that stuff sells. We'll see how much, and to what extent. Outside of talking head land, I still think Romney's a slimeball who'd sell out his own grandmother to make a profit, and Obama does know how to listen to strong advice and make the right call most of the time.

So my vote's unswayed. I just wish Obama came out and bloodied his knuckles like Bill Clinton would have. The damn race would be over with by now.

xanadian: That's not the point. At least, not how I see it. Romney's "issues" were empty. But he DELIVERED the performance. It's like saying how "Lord of the Rings" didn't really mean anything because what happened in the movie was fiction.

Look, I would have liked to see Obama go on the attack. But that is simply not his way. He takes in information, calculates, then makes a decision. That's one of the things i LIKE about him. He doesn't shoot from the hip. It's a quality i think all Presidents should be required to have. Heck, if that was either me or you up there, we would have flung our own poo after Romney's 3rd or 4th blatant lie.

Named for the debate tactic created by creationist shill Duane Gish, a Gish Gallop involves spewing so much bullshiat in such a short span on that your opponent can't address let alone counter all of it. To make matters worse a Gish Gallop will often have one or more 'talking points' that has a tiny core of truth to it, making the person rebutting it spend even more time debunking it in order to explain that, yes, it's not totally false but the Galloper is distorting/misusing/misstating the actual situation. A true Gish Gallop generally has two traits.

1) The factual and logical content of the Gish Gallop is pure bullshiat and anybody knowledgeable and informed on the subject would recognize it as such almost instantly. That is, the Gish Gallop is designed to appeal to and deceive precisely those sorts of people who are most in need of honest factual education.

2) The points are all ones that the Galloper either knows, or damn well should know, are totally bullshiat. With the slimier users of the Gish Gallop, like Gish himself, its a near certainty that the points are chosen not just because the Galloper knows that they're bullshiat, but because the Galloper is deliberately trying to shovel as much bullshiat into as small a space as possible in order to overwhelm his opponent with sheer volume and bamboozle any audience members with a facade of scholarly acumen and factual knowledge.

There was NO surplus in 2001. That surplus was a PROJECTION and it assumed a continuation of the Dot-com economic explosion.

--------------------
And assuming there would be no massive tax cut, or wars waged.

Exactly. If the Surplus never existed, as Republicans like to claim now. then why did Bush Spend it? You may recall his original explanation for the Bush Tax cuts was theat we needed to spend down the surplus because the federal government couldn't be trusted with excess money.

Wait for the standings at the end of the season, not just the first game.

Hyjamon: WizardofToast: IrateShadow: Isn't Boortz a libertarian and totally not a republican at all?

There are two kinds of libertarians. Libertarians and Republicans with Groucho glasses.

I listen to his show everyday and it is hard to categorize him at the moment. He is a libertarian on social issues...he is okay with doing away with the drug war, he thinks prostitution should be legalized, doesn't really care about gays getting married, and he doesn't like religious craziness but he seems republican with his fiscal opinions, that and he really hates Obama. He plans on retiring on Jan 19th or 20th, so I imagine we will get more crazy from him as he no longer cares about staying on the air. His motto this year is "Talking Dangerously".

Interestingly I have been listening to Neal Boortz, Rush, Hannity and Erik Erickson everyday for over a year, and I am still leaning toward Obama. I am trying give them a chance to convince me that Romney is better and that's where they fall short. All they talk about is how terrible Obama is, but they can't tell me why Romney would be better beyond "He is not Obama."

If Romney wants to win over the independents, he needs to start getting some facts, details and specifics on his plans.

Serious question, but why do you listen to talk radio? Are you locked in solitary in some prison and they only allow AM radios or something?

No joke. By that logic, we be ridiculously wealthy right now compared to the 60s.

8 years of Bush's upper class tax cuts created a net gain of zero jobs.

I'm amazed anyone has the balls to still trot out this trickle down garbage in this day and age.

Because Obama is talking to the voters. You know, the ones who he is supposed to be talking to.

whizbangthedirtfarmer: Boortz was moderately amusing until he started to metamorphose into a Republican, all the while exclaiming that he wasn't a Republican, but always spewing Republican talking points.

Oh, and the debate wasn't as much of a landslide for those who paid attention. Only the most hardcore Mitt-ites I've seen are saying he won. The rest of the people go from, "geez, what an asshole" to "he didn't really tell us anything" in their opinions.

There seems to be a near-universal belief that Romney beat, or at least met, expectations while Obama didn't. That probably accounts for most of the "Romney won" narrative.

Ask anybody why Romney won or why Obama "imploded" and you won't get anything but bullshiat takes on "style" and the likes.

Ask them next what is more important to them, that a candidate tells them the truth or that they lie and attempt to look good doing it and you'll see that most people who are responding to an uneventful debate in any way other than "meh" are completely full of shiat.
