Needsun: I think the mental midgets have, once again, missed the point.
PBS is a commercially viable product capable of supporting itself
and showing a profit on the bottom line. Why are they collecting
welfare from the feral gub'amint (aka taxpayers)? Oh, it's ONLY
.0012%! The amount of support isn't relevant, the fact they're
being supported at all is the issue. Don't worry tho - your food
stamp president will come to the rescue.

No it isn't. You're making the same mistake the people focusing on Big Bird are, in conflating some successful studios who produce content for the PBS market with PBS. However, unlike those people, you're wrong on additional levels, because the removal of PBS would in fact destroy the product those studios make. In your invisible free hand capitalist utopia they would be forced to accept creative 'input' from the stations, modify content to fit advertisers, and eventually turn into the exact kind of toyetic crap that makes them and their ability to avoid that by being on PBS a breath of fresh air compared to the content available on the other stations. In short, you are a whore's john shilling for pimps, and should very much go fark yourself with a bag of burning cocks, you sulpherous whoreson.

And I mean that with all due honesty and intent. Anyone who goes after PBS deserves their world of reality TV and Paris Hilton, but I do not personally want to have to live in it as well. Your statement is either disingenuous or outright lying, and regardless of which, deserving of nothing but the outright scorn, contempt, and hatred of all thinking beings. "HURP if people wanted books, they'd go buy them, we should get rid of libraries! DERP electricity practically pays for itself, let the free market decide! HURPADERP if people want to drive in their neighborhood, they'd pay to have them paved, no need for gubmint handouts!" fark you. fark you. fark everyone you know. fark your whole entire extended family. Generally I'd rather avoid divisive politics, but your sort of pseudo-intellectual 'my ignorance is just as good as his knowledge' lying, manipulative, idiotic, farktarded bullshiat is ACTUALLY what is ruining this country. Corporate greed can be mitigated, stupidity can be taught away, proud ignorance masquerading as intelligence however, is forever. Which you will prove by coming back and doubling down on your idiocy, I have no doubts.

Well, yeah, if you raise taxes on the uber-wealthy then they'll take their ball and go home, which means no jobs for anybody, which means we'll all have to crack open each others' skulls and feast on the goo inside. And that does nothing to help lower the deficit, and we all know if we don't lower the deficit it will one day hunt us down, steal our women and children and give us the butt cancer.

Yep, they'll just pack up and leave, GE, GM, Boeing, Wall Street, White Westing House, Time Warner, Ford... They'll all just pack up and leave won't they? Just like they did in the generations past... There are entire generations of cars missing from ford because they left the US in the 70's, 80's, and 90's when taxes were 10% higher than they are now... Gotta love Fark. I didn't watch the stage-managed bullshiat everybody calls a "debate" and when I started seeing references to Big Bird on the intertubes (with no explanation), my reaction was "WTF?" But all I had to do was scroll down about 10 comments in this thread, and now I know what's going on.

It's amusing how the bar is set so low for Republicans now in this thing, if they can do better than drool and mumble "secret Muslim," they can "win" the "debate."

As if all the stupid shiat they've been saying for years now is erased by a merely competent performance in one appearance by spokesmodel Romney.

That's right, the gay-hating, woman-hating, brown-hating, poor-hating screeching by the Republicans is all washed away now. I'm convinced they're the ones who need to be running the country, if that's possible after stammering Obama has completely ruined it in 3 years. He was handed a shimmering jewel of affluent democracy and look what he's done to it. Thanks a lot, Fartbongo.

As soon as Mittens said it I burst out "He wants to kill Big Bird, it's over!" and my wife doubted me.

/one of these days I might even tell her that I was right

This one comment may have stood out more than others, but just about everything Romney said last night came across as him being an out of touch elitist prick if you were listening.

"We should grade schools so parents know where to send their kids."
Yes, Mitt, because all parents are so fortunate as to have the means to send their kids to the school of their choice. And if you can't get your kid in that top notch school? Well, too bad, shoulda had more money.

"We shouldn't allow a government panel to decide who gets medical treatment."
Right, instead, we should trust those running the insurance companies to make those decisions, because there's no way they would choose to disregard someone's best interests in favor of bigger profits. And if that happens, well too bad, shoulda had more money.

Fark Mitt Romney. He is an elitist, uncaring sack of shiat, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.

stevetherobot: I'd be surprised if Sesame Street either gets or needs federal funding. They must rake in a ton of money from merchandising.

Oh, they are very profitable. In fact, most PBS (and NPR) stations are rolling in dough. They just plead poverty because it gets their viewers to donate more tax-free cash

Queue33: Have the Republicans considered the long term electoral damage that opposing PBS does?

As a child I knew with absolute certainty that Fred Rodgers = goodness in life. As a parent I can see my daughters love of Elmo and Daniel Tiger.

Why would you stake out a position in opposition to childhood joy and unconditional love?

So, the whole animated Daniel Tiger thing is decent? It's not crapping on the legacy of Mister Rogers Neighborhood?

buckeyebrain: Wade_Wilson: I always wonder why they didn't just spin Elmo off into his own show. He's popular enough to carry one, and the others characters have been able to carry one for over 40 years. Seems like you could get two popular shows out of it.

Like what Animaniacs did when Pinky and the Brain became big.

Wade_Wilson, are you pondering what I'm pondering?

I think so, but this time, you put the trousers on the chimp.

Am I the only one who ever read Grover is bitter? I found it hysterical...

The beginning: "To some, Grover's upbringing sounds romantic and exciting. But to a young Grovski Carbunkle, born in a dingy flat in Queens on October 14th, 1955, it was anything but."

Because unconditional love is FOR SUCKERS AND ANTIAMERICAN!

You gotta know how to HATE! You gotta know how to FEAR, like JAAAAYYYSUUUUSSS would want! He wouldn't preach about no unconditional love, 'cept for AMERICA! That's why rich people are rich! 'Cause JAYSUS loves 'am!

/Note, I am not anti-christian. I grew up in the UCC, and am very proud of them.

Romney and the Democrats won last night. Romney gave better face time but he also pushed liberal agendas for the most part. "Oh, you've reached across the aisle as governor to have democrats push through socialized healthcare? No, that just makes you a liberal, honey".

Agreed 100%. That was the only remark anyone actually remembers. Farkin' PBS? Really? They run on like $20.
