As my mind was in baseball mode, I thought, "How the fark can St. Louis beat itself? When did they get the Browns back?" And then I saw the NFL shield and thought, "Nevermind."

Note that the former St. Louis Browns are not only also in the playoffs, they finished 5 games ahead of the Cardinals. :p

I was in NFL mode, but I was trying to figure out subby's typo since the St. Louis Cardinals cannot play the St. Louis Cardinals. Apparently my mind is in the mid 80s

St. Louis won't score more than 14 points against the Arizona D. Should be a real snoozer.

Marcus Aurelius: St. Louis won't score more than 14 points against the Arizona D. Should be a real snoozer.

Yeah, I thought that about Seattle's D. Then their kicker hit a 58-yarder and a 60-yarder (and a 48-yarder), and they scored on a fake FG. :/

And Arizona DID just give up 418 passing yards to Ryan Tannehill.

Finally, a night game I don't feel the urge to rush home from work to watch.

What team trounces the Eagles but barely beats the Dolphins in overtime?

My prediction: Cards win a little after midnight EDT. 5-0 Baby!

Hey NFL Network, go back to only doing Thursday games after Thanksgiving.

antidisestablishmentarianism: Hey NFL Network, go back to only doing Thursday games after Thanksgiving.

I don't mind Thursday night football, and they did make it "fair" this year in that there are 16 Thursday night games this year, and every team is playing in exactly one, so, from that standpoint, it is more "fair" than previous years, as far as everyone has 1 "4-day week" now.

But, I don't like the 4-day weeks at all in football, for injuries sake (and the NFL is supposedly supposed to be the "fair league").

So, my suggestion would be... this year the Thursday night games were from Week 2-15 (14 weeks, with Thanksgiving having 3 Thursday games instead of 1, so, that gets you to the 16 games/32 teams).

Next year, make it weeks 3-16, and the teams that are playing the Thursday night games... their bye week is the week before. So, instead of every team having a 2 week "rest" with bye's each year, every team gets a 4 week span like such:

Play this week
Bye next week
Thursday game the next week (so, 10 or 11 days since their last game, depending on Sun/Mon game)
Back to "normal" days this week (so, 10 or 11 days since the Thursday night game, dep on Sun/Mon game)

So you essentially exchange everyone gets a 13-14 day rest, 10-11 day rest, and a short 4-day rest to instead everyone gets two 10-11 day rests (consecutively), and no "short" weeks.

The only advantage will then be the "Kickoff Game" on Thursday with the Superbowl champ, where those teams will get an extra 10-11 game rest between weeks 1 & 2.

Meant to say "The NFL is supposed to be the league that "cares about player safety".

Tonight's pick:

Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams:
The Rams have already won more home games this season (2) than in all of 2011 (1) and would lead the league in interceptions (the good kind) were it not for the 5-piece gift set Chicago received on Monday night. That said, the Cardinals keep finding ways to win against better teams than St. Louis, and the smothering Arizona defense matches up well against Sam Bradford's offensive unit. I look for the Cards to win an ugly game which will have fans fondly reminiscing about the offensive show which was Baltimore-Cleveland last Thursday. Arizona 16, St. Louis 6

This year was weeks 1-15, but week 1 was pushed forward to a Wednesday because of a Presidential address.

I don't think the first one is considered an "Thursday night game" for the purposes of the new contract (and as far as the fact that between the other 16 games, everyone plays once).... mainly because, there is no issue with a "4 day rest" issue on that week 1 game, since nobody played the previous sunday (all of the preseason games the week before are on Thursday for the final preseason week, so, even the "Kickoff Special" teams have a 7-day break between games.... and most teams don't even play most of their regular season starters that last game anyway).

No way to predict a game in the NFL until at least week 8 when teams start to unravel from the inside, injuries start to pile up and the quality of a team's depth becomes an issue.

The NFL reeks of parity.

Captain Steroid: Cards going 5-0 tonight! Book it. Done.

That made me chuckle.

I'm not allowed to like either team. My father in law worked as a defensive coordinator for the St. Louis cardinals, or he would have if he hadn't been fired along with everyone else when the team got a new owner. So he got six weeks in the NFL before his dream got killed. In this house, we hate the Cardinals and the Rams too.

Even Cards fans don't like the Bidwills.

F*ck Bill Bidwell. His son has helped turn the franchise around. All Bidwell ever did was biatch and whine incessantly. I read an article years ago about when the owners would get together and he'd complain about everything- and the reporter seemed to think all the owners disliked him, too.

Eventually reality will reassert itself. Rams will win tonight.

2012-10-04 07:06:50 PM
Rams are better at home (like most teams), but tonight they're getting a lot of support from the fickle St. Louis football fans. I live in Stl, but don't care about football. Cards are going down, though.

Rams: 25 1/2
Cards: 8

/And the Braves are going to lose. Bet on it.

It may be a little before I post in this thread. I gotta fly over to europe to see this since TWC doesn't have NFL network. I think they are starting to package it if you want to pay like 2 bucks a game

So I'm watching Audibles on ESPN and it's amazing what a difference there is when you don't have a studio guy going "but what about the public percetion/what about what was said", even if the nominal host is Keyshawn Johnson.

TWC here with no sports add ons and I have NFL Network. Redzone requires the extra sports package though.

Since the Saints are pretty much eliminated from football already this year Im kinda hoping for the CardiLULZ to do well. Especially if you could sweep the 49ers. That'd be great

Cards surrendered: 16, 18, 6, 21 (hte last without Nine Oh!)

ariz favored by 1.

short week for redbirds....I think the cards will lose this one because the Rams can score, and while the D has been getting chirped up, I think our luck catches up to us and rams pull a mild upset. Spesh on the short week for us.

not srue of the over but I think on the order of low single digits; 28-24.

I HOPE I'M WRONG OF COURSE
