(The Hollywood Reporter)   To celebrate their 90th anniversary, Warner Brothers is set to piss on The Wizard of Oz by rereleasing it in 3-D. Well, at least they didn't reboot it with Rebecca Black as Dorothy   (hollywoodreporter.com) divider line 4

If they hold off on the 3D until she arrives in Oz, I'm okay with it.

wiwille: devilEther: awesome. hope they put in the time and effort like James Cameron's team did with Titanic 3-D, which was very well done.

0/10

That is a correct score since I'm not trolling. Titanic is cheesy as all hell, the script is awful, but it is a visual spectacle and the story of Titanic is fascinating. I went to see it figuring it might look cool in 3-D and knowing James Cameron would not do it half-assed. My jaw was dropped from the opening scene with the submersibles. If they do as well with the conversion of the Wizard of Oz I would be excited to see it.

Wellon Dowd: Just let it go. 3-D is dead, man.

3D is not dead. I am confident there will be many great 3D movies in the future that will use the technology appropriately and to the advantage of the movie. They will be worth seeing, in 3D.

Here we have a movie that was conceived as a 2D movie as the technology was decades away. Thus none of the scene were designed with the what it would look like in 3D in mind. Thus there is really nothing 3D could really add to the movie.

Show old 2D movies in 2D.
Show old black-and-white movies in black and white.
Show silent movies with no sound other than music that was meant to be played with them.

If it monkey with an old film let it be to remove scratches from the masters, to restore color and sound to what was intended when they were created, restore scene cut by various censors, etc.
