I'm stumped. Why did DM mention that people have pointed out the problems with cutting funding to PBS, or that it's an insignificant amount of money to the government?

This is the Daily Mail, they couldn't hide their angle inside of a black hole.
To even acknowledge another point of view is unexpected.

Well, it's a pretty good summary of how useless all of Mitt's policy positions are. Might as well use it since the GOP already ruined the traditional "empty suit" meme by repeatedly abusing it until it died in 2008.

fusillade762: Stripping all federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting -- which helps fund PBS -- would save around $450 million a year.

That's $450 million with an "m," not a "b" -- and it pales in comparison to the roughly $3.5 trillion the government will spend this year.

That'll put an end to the deficit!

And you'd think Mitt would be totally down with the "Downton Abbey" folks. They're regular people, just like him.

So, we spend so MUCH money, we dont need to worry about 450 million that could easily be paid for through advertisement? a question, not a statement.

/ I mean its ONLY 450 million dollars a year, let me pay for it. I have some change in the couch.

Sesame street is my favorite sacred cow of the cost cutting world.

Much like high school football gets threatened everytime a school tax is up for a vote, whenver PBS' federal funding is mentioned, talk immediately goes to sesame street, as if the biggest property they have is going to suffer first.

I sound fat: I mean its ONLY 450 million dollars a year, let me pay for it. I have some change in the couch.

This. That's a new high school football practice facility in Texas, or two F-22s that can strangle USAF pilots while at the same time permanently lose it's stealth ability because it's raining outside.

So, Mitt's not funding PBS? Nixon tried that....

...but this guy stopped him. Too bad he's not around to go to capitol hill again...

Romney last night was a good used car salesman. Impressive delivery of pure bullshiat that didn't actually mean anything while Obama made his policies going forward clear. Romney also has now lost the meme war. Romney is the "winner" until SNL, Leno, Letterman, Daily Show etc. start talking about killing Big Bird

2012-10-04 06:42:59 AM
Of course Romney wants to get rid of Big Bird. He's pro-marijuana.

/I forgot what we were doing, Kremit.

PBS is my favorite target of the cost cutting world. It's funding is negligible compared to the federal budget, but since I and my supporters don't like people being educated, I act like I'm doing something without really doing anything.

Romney loves Big Bird. With some gravy and mashed potatoes.

Is that the spin now? He won, but he lost? What kind of doublespeak is that?

Oh, and if it turns out that you are indeed correct, doesn't that say a lot about the voting public where someone can win the debate by the consensus of all who watched it, but a minor point can be blown out of proportion and hammered on by comedians until the public changes it's opinion?

Other than Rmoney's big plan called "Get Rid of the Darkie", killing Big Bird is the only real specific position he had last night.

I think the real point is, Romney won in terms of style and ability to walk all over the moderator. Obama won on actually having policies and some true facts. But since facts and actual plans don't matter, Romney won.

There are only two spending increases in Romney's economic plan:

1) 25% increase in spending for DoD, so long as it does not include wage or service increases for troops. i.e. must go to contractors, not troops.

2) Increase in tax cuts for those making over $1,000,000 annually.

You lost so it must be a racist conspiracy. That was easy.

Downton Abbey a little too close to home Mittens?

In FY 2010 the DEA spent $215 million on IT solutions.
In FY 2006 the DoD spent about $2000 million on fuel.
An F35C costs about $230 million.

Just sayin... There's lots of money to be found in not doing things.

Fun Fact: Sesame Street completely funds itself.

You gotta wonder if a major TV network will pick up Sesame Street and air it commercial free. Would be one hell of an idea.

It's interesting: the right thinks Obama got DESTROYED, the left thinks Obama could have done better but wasn't all that bad, and no one seems to care what the middle thinks.

As a swing voter who is friends with other swing voters, the outcome on the middle seems to be this: Romney *looked* more impressive, but substantively he still didn't give me any details, and he still keeps repeating a couple of thoroughly-disproven (by fact checkers) lies and inaccuracies. For example, 3 whole Obama-backed energy companies are in bankruptcy, not 1/2.

Romney looked like a comfortable, practiced, board-room debater. But he didn't back it with any substance. My guess is, the polls budge in his favor, but only by a point or two. Especially since the foreign policy debate is still to come.

Summary: Romney staved off total irrelevance and saved his campaign last night, but he still has a lot of work to do to have a chance at winning. Make of it what you will.
