Good. I'm all for legal immigration, so please don't get me wrong. But I think it's ridiculous that we are the only country that gets shiat for wanting to enforce our immigration laws. Hopefully this plan works out and eventually we can figure out how to get some money out of these illegals to pay for their own damn ticket. I know some libtards will give me the tired 1/10 for trolling. Instead why don't you provide me with solid reasons why we should have open borders. I can't think of any.

Same song that popped into my mind when I read the headline.

Great tune, sadly forgotten.

Speaking of Delta, I flew on them from Denver-NYC and back as the domestic leg of a 2-week trip to Rome...my in-flight movie going out was "What to expect when you're expecting", and coming back it was "Battleship". Is that the WORST 1-2 punch of in-flight movies ever or what?!?!? A COMBINED 56% on RT...just ridiculous :(

Try to emigrate to Canada. Just try. If your only skills are lettuce picking and lawn mowing I guarantee you won't be allowed in.

I've been suggesting that you need to deport them further than the border. They know how to get back from there. It's like when you trap a mouse in your house, you don't just toss it out the front door.

Although I'd opt for something a little further than Mexico City. I was thinking Kabul. You know, someplace they really don't know how to get back to the US from.

I don't think we should have OPEN borders. But currently, there is no way for Jose Blow in Mexico who wants to come here and make a living to actually do so. You know, the way our country was settled, and the way it became the nation it is today? That can't happen anymore. You have to have family here, or enough money to put down a bond, or have an employer who is willing to put down that bond. I'd like to see a program in which a prospective immigrant is given a background check, then is permitted to come here, provided he finds a job within a reasonable amount of time, stays out of trouble, and isn't a burden on society. After a period, they can get permanent resident status. As a side benefit, there would then be an incentive to actually integrate within society, because they would no longer have to live in fear of it.

If I were a large corporation, I'd want open borders.

Bring in those third world people.

For the first generation you pay them almost nothing, and work them as much as you can.

For the second generation, you sell them products and make money off them that way.

In the third generation, you use them to threaten the previous native population with replacement and/or social chaos.

For the big corporation or shifty politician, there's no lose to this scenario, especially since his kids will grow up in a gated whitopia.

2012-10-04 08:54:17 AM
All I ask is that we treat our southern border the same as Mexico treats theirs.

Then maybe someday the corrupt thugs who run Mexico will stop laughing at us as they dump their poor brown people on us.

The spaniards who run that country have been trying for centuries to get rid of their native population.

oh will you just SHUT UP, YOU TIT. This is a FARK THREAD quit making SENSE.

if you cant sling empty slogans around we dont want your sensible kind round here.

/i keeeeed

Frankly, i think there should be some sort of just blanket criteria for amnesty.

"so let me get this straight, Mr. Latino immigrant from mexico, you came over here when you were 19, worked at manual labor jobs for years in fields and kitches, raised several kids who went through our school systems and our institutions, neither you nor they have ever had any issues with the police, youve kept your head down and worked and provided, and been doing so for 20 years? sounds good to me."

this is why things like the Dream Act make so much sense.

my wife's extended fam has some illegals in it, theyve been in Los Angeles forever, raised american kids... why are the kids not citizens? they were brought here as infants and are as american as anyone. they should have the ability to get citizenship easily. We as a country have invested in them with education and public services, why do we not want to reap the rewards of their labor by letting them fulfill their potential and go thru college if they can, or serve in our military, or whatever? And if they do, let them be citzens.

I never understand why conservatives assume liberals support illegal immigration. We hate mexicans just as much as the next guy... its only hispanics themselves who fight to support illegal immigration.

Not until much later. Original population was English, German, Dutch, Scots and some Swedes. If you go to an older cemetery, you can see this clearly from the names.

The Irish and Southern Europeans (Italians, Greeks) came later. I don't know much about Jewish immigration, except that they generally came over from the above-mentioned countries. Apparently, this was nativist enough to get into the Confederacy anyway.

Crops rotting in fields is a good reason to have a more lax immigration policy, at least. Georgia also had that problem after their immigration law was passed. We have the same problems here in California, and not just with the pears. All highly intensive harvesting suffers without the migrant farm workers, many of whom are indeed illegal.

Crops rotting isn't a good reasonf or a lax policy, it is good reason for a strong workable policy.

/Cost of labor for produce/fruits is some 4-7% of the cost, so at the high end if we paid the "workers" 10x as much produce would only go up 70%
//we can grow all our own food, ya know

And despite all the fear over crops rotting, none of the states that are cracking down on illegal immigration have had major economic consequences. In fact, some are thriving.

Depends on what "Irish" you're talking about. Ulster (protestant) Irish were represented early on, but not Southern (Catholic) Irish.

Also, there were a lot of... um... Africans that immigrated here early on as well.

Do you mean illegal workers or illegal employers?

Instead of spending even more tax money on moving people around, why not focus on those illegal employers who provide the market draw for ths labor segment? Imprison a few agribusiness CEOs and seize the assets of a few construction companies; only then will we get reform. This could be solved n 180 days.

But no, it's easier to crush the neck of the disenfranchised slave-wage worker.

Many of those "crops rotting in fields" that were picked up everywhere were written less than a week after some of these laws passed. And is it any surprise that farmers who make out big by using illegal immigrant labor wouldn't play it up to be a crisis? I don't seem to notice empty produce aisles at the grocery store this year despite these laws still being in effect. Where are the follow up stories?

See we were talking about the US and the need or lack thereof for immigrant migrant workers, so the "we" in this case was not every single Us family but the USA wihtout illegal immigrants.
