clyph: It always amuses/baffles me when people get charged for DRIVING while intoxicated when they're NOT DRIVING.
Bathia_Mapes: Did you RTFA?
clyph: Bathia_Mapes: Did you RTFA?This is Fark. Does anyone?
KrispyKritter: wonder how many he'll have before he kills someone.
Bathia_Mapes: Some of us do.
SevenizGud: As I understand it, in Texas #5 gets you a mandatory 5 years.

Gyrfalcon: Would it have been better for him to have hit the elephant?
Sline: pissedoffmick:As a person who was once willfully ignorant of just how bad a DUI can be I agree completely. I got stopped, I admitted I was drunk (no point in trying to fool anyone) and pleaded guilty in court. I got the minimum sentence in Florida: 1 year suspended (declined the test), 6 months probation ($), community service ($), counseling ($), DUI "school" ($), super high insurance, MADD meetings, etc. These things cost me tons of money at a time I couldn't afford it (15k+ all told). DUI is a huge money grab (at least in Florida).so wait...you declined the test and yet admitted you were drunk? so you ended up with a conviction AND a suspension for refusal when you could have had just the latter? because assuming you didn't run your car into a ditch and vomit on the arresting officer, there's not a public defender alive, even in florida, who wouldn't have been able to knock a first offense dui without a test down to a lesser charge like reckless operation... were it not for the fact that you admitted to being drunk on the scene.Don't Talk To Police- applies to dui's as much as anything else.sorry, i don't mean to be a dick, i'm just saying there's no reason to provide the police with a confession on the scene, especially if you're going to refuse the only thing they could really convict you with (other than your own words, of course.)
SlothB77: I have driven through Delaware before. Never saw an elephant on or near the highways there. I also have never had a joint laced with pcp.

DaCaptain19: Here's my suggestion: First DUI, no license for a year, community service and at least 30 full days in jail. One time is a mistake - still to be dealt with rather seriously. Second DUI? You can NEVER again drive legally AND at least 1 year i (no "good time") in PRISON. Two DUIs is a f*cking alcoholic that's bound to kill someone on the road.
DaCaptain19: Still, executions should not take more than 30 days to, uh, execute. This 15-years until the needle sh*t ain't doing it.
