The Nats are kind of weird.

Now if the Nats lose, they'll call it a jinx and he'll never win again.

They should change up the presidents next year: Millard Fillmore, Handsome Frank Pierce, Chet Arthur, and Benjamin Harrison!

"My only two regrets in life are that I did not hang Calhoun and shoot Clay." - Andrew Jackson. Calhoun was his vice president.

Have to have a William Henry Harrison that sneezes wheezes and coughs - and only makes it about 100 feet,,

///not to mention an FDR in a wheelchair

I'm glad to see I'm not the first to point out the 1901 error.
In the 1900 election, McKinley was elected to a second term over Bryan. Roosevelt was elected Vice President. In 1901, McKinley was murdered and Roosevelt became President. In the 1904 election, Roosevelt was elected in his own right over Parker. Roosevelt chose not to run again in 1908 and supported Taft instead. Roosevelt then went off to be a badass some more and shoot elephants and such. He then decided that the Republicans were not being "progressive" enough under Taft, so he ran against Taft while forming the "Bull Moose" party. Roosevelt was shot during that campaign. He lost, then went to be a badass on the Amazon, then died in 1919. So anyways, the headline should say "1904" as that was the last election Roosevelt won.

I heard a rumor that they're adding more for next year, and one is JFK. No joke. And it came from the same friend that said Teddy would win today...

I bet he'd skip the game if the rangers ever came to town.

/first part was actually serious.

If the Nats lose in the first round everyone will blame Teddy's win and he'll never finish first again.

Until the day the REAL Teddy Roosevelt learns of this and returns from his current job of punching planets into correct orbits in distant galaxies and incinerates the pretenders with his Pince-Nez of Justice.

For years, this was true. Now that we actually have a great team, I wish they'd stop referring to the Presidents' Race as "the main event" though. That bothers me.

Phake-natic? Really?

Wait, so everyone wanted Teddy to win and yet the only way it happened was because the "Phillies" helped him?

I'm a Phillies fan, but that seems a bit ridiculous. Wouldn't it have been better for fans if Teddy was winning on his own, and the Fakenatic tried to stop him, but Teddy kicked the Fakenatic out of the way?

For some reason this silly race, the characters involved, the timing of it & the city make perfect sense too me.

I have previously said that the only times I get a greenlight is when I put an obvious error in the headline. Today does not disprove my theory.

// totally skimmed wikipedia when i was looking for Teddy's Presidential term
// quick and dirty wins the race

For all of the hubbub about Teddy's physical prowess, Abe Lincoln would kick his arse up and down the east coast with little problem. As a pure physical specimen, few politicians have ever been as impressive as Honest Abe.

This. Honest Abe was a wrassler. He would probably just give Teddy the ol' frankensteiner and walk away whistling.

Lincoln's finisher would have to be called The Emancipator. Similar to the Diamond Cutter, he could hit you with it at any time from anywhere.

My favorite Andrew Jackson quote - (War of 1812... sort of. The war was over but he didn't know it at the time.):

Battle of New Orleans: "Elevate them guns a little lower".

/really

I have two favorite Teddy R quotes..

"The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life."

"Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people."
