You see, this is how crazy Batman's made Gotham.

You want order in Gotham? Batman must take off his mask and turn himself in.

Oh, and every day he doesn't, people will die.

When officers arrived, they found Williams, dressed as Batman and carrying a baton-type striking weapon, a can of chemical irritant spray and a pair of sand-filled gloves.

His gadgets are really lame. Sand-filled gloves?

State troopers arrested 33-year-old Mark Wayne Williams because they say he refused to leave them alone after he showed up Saturday night wearing a Batman outfit.

"He wouldn't clear the scene, and we had a canine out there and he kept screwing up the scent," State Police Sgt. Jeff Gorno told the Petoskey News-Review ( http://bit.ly/QFv0yh). "He said he wanted to help us look for the driver."

"We didn't want the dog to track Batman instead of the accident scene, and he was getting in the way of officers who had a job to do," the sergeant said.

Williams wasn't carrying any dangerous weapons, but his costume and gear were confiscated, Gorno said. He was charged with resisting and obstructing police in an investigation, and he posted bond and was released from the county jail.

I can certainly see "obstructing police", but "resisting"? What's with the additional charge?

I believe being asked to leave and not doing so constitutes resisting a police officer.

Bad terminology on their part. They should've referred to them as "weighted gloves". Unless they were homemade, they were likely filled with powdered steel or lead. More impact to the punches, without concentrating all the energy into a single spot the way brass knuckles do.

This is what got me, FTFA

"He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted resisting and obstructing a police officer"

So, he stood there, and maybe kinda thought about resisting [arrest], and that was enough to cuff him?

JTDC, "attempted resisting" (not even saying "arrest", I helped out the "journalist"), I'm just, well, I leave it you more clever
folks.

Yeah, linking a story from Michigan in a Sacramento newspaper.

Does no one ever think to find local sources, or has the AP turned everyone into full-blown derpsters?

That makes more sense. I was picturing medical gloves, filled with sand.

browneye: Why is is every person outside the acting industry who puts on a Batman outfit always look like a doughy goof?

Because actors that put on the suit spend time working out, dieting, training for the part. They have a professionally made costume that looks good.

Take a typically rotund person, put them in a cheap spandex knockoff, and you get someone that the "real" Batman would look down on as "wearing hockey pads".

Spend a low-five-figure sum on a professionally made, good costume, and six months on a strict diet and intense workouts with a personal trainer and you'll look like a movie Batman.

You'll probably also not be dumb enough to go to crime scenes and start interfering. If you want to do some superhero LARP, go ahead, have fun, but do what larpers do and have an isolated, sectioned off area where normals don't have to interact with you. A hotel convention center, a rented campground, something like that.

If it's wanting to fight crime, that's the real reason? Try actually joining the police. Can't get in? Got some medical problem? Got something that makes you ineligible? Can you get a Private Investigator license? No? Well, I'd suggest City of Heroes then but they just announced that they were shutting that down.
