Vectron: Is it legal for the mayor to do this?

Maybe not, but it's totally ethical.

We know this because the Ethics Board is silent on the topic.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel today dumped the entire board that oversees enforcement of ethics and campaign finance rules at City Hall, calling it "a new day for ethics and accountability in Chicago."

I get his point. There's no reason to have people "oversee" that which doesn't exist.

Vectron: The Board's members and its Executive Director are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council. Board members serve staggered 4 year terms without pay and are independent, and can be removed only for cause, with the written approval of remaining Board members. The Board meets monthly and is staffed by seven full-time employees, including its Executive Director.

Is it legal for the mayor to do this?

Well, if there are zero remaining board members, how many signatures per member can you...

I bet Rahm Emanuel will write another op-ed about how amazingly legal it is.

What's next telling a business they can't come into his city because he doesn't agree with them?

/wonder when they'll get around to hiring a new ethics board...
//also when is Rahm's term up?
