Mayor Rahm Emanuel today dumped the entire board that oversees enforcement of ethics and campaign finance rules at City Hall, calling it "a new day for ethics and accountability in Chicago."

I get his point. There's no reason to have people "oversee" that which doesn't exist.

FTA: That in the 20 years of it's existence, it has never managed to find any wrong doing, while in that time 20 aldermen have been convicted on various charges...

Odd that regardless of this, Chicago's Number One Son is leading in cooked polls, which are never doubted by the Media?

I'm guessing they refused his orders to dig up something on an alderman.

Vectron: The Board's members and its Executive Director are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council. Board members serve staggered 4 year terms without pay and are independent, and can be removed only for cause, with the written approval of remaining Board members. The Board meets monthly and is staffed by seven full-time employees, including its Executive Director.

Is it legal for the mayor to do this?

The law does not enter into chicago politics. Especially when there is a pesky ethics panel to dispose of.
