Trust me, DVR is a wonderful thing for married folks who have different tastes in TV shows. My hubby likes "Brickleberry" (and I can't stand that damn show) and I like "Once" (and he hates that one). That being said, "Breaking Bad" and "Small Town Security" has really brought us together, LOL

compared to the turds that most of the networks are crapping out, Breaking Bad is fantastic tv. Compared to good literature, sure it comes up lacking. But it is stellar tv, and if you are going to watch tv shows you can do much much worse than Breaking Bad.

TV is pretty good these days, especially compared to the shiat we used to watch in the 80's-90's. Shows like Breaking Bad actually look like they cost something to make and have decent actors that sell their roles.

Even if you don't care for the subject matter, saying Breaking Bad "isn't as good as the hype" is just stupid. The entire "Gus" arc was just brilliant tv.

But, it's not as good as the hype. Breaking Bad gets more fellatio from fanboys than Ron Jeremy has gotten from porn chicks in his career. While it is a decent show, it's not as good as the hype would have you believe.

Charged with third degree attempted assault AND third degree menacing. This brings up a few questions.
Can you attempt assault and not be menacing?
Why is it attempted assault, while menacing was apparently successful?
Can you be charged one without the other?

There are many more, I am sure. But IANAL.

MooseUpNorth: The other side of that coin is that 11 can be brittle and petulant when things aren't working out for him. Yeah, he's fun most of the time, but he's occasionally harder to respect than either 9 or 10.

11 is still growing on me. Not bad, but not best. We'll have to see how he does without Amy and Rory. I'm eager to find out how (or IF) they're going to bring Oswin back from the dead. Given how many times Rory died and came back, it's within the realm of possibility; but I wouldn't put it past them to throw us a curve ball and reintroduce the actress as a completely different character. (Also not without precedent)

10 has actually displaced 4 as my favorite Doctor; I'd have liked to have had a couple more seasons of him before he regenerated. Amy and Rose still can't hold a candle to Sarah Jane, though. Or Leela, Ace, or Romana for that matter. Jack and Rory are both better male companions than of the ones from the classic series, except maybe the Brigadier.

Prank Call of Cthulhu: Breaking Bad owns every other show out there. The show is so awesome, you can actually make any comic strip funnier just by replacing the dialog with BB quotes. This works quite well for Dennis the Menace.

My point is that one has a far greater chance of engaging in enriching activity while on fark (or more widely, the internet)
than one does while watching a televised drama.

The former is a user-defined mixture of active and passive activity, while the latter is solely passive.

I'm not dismissing an entire medium. I'm saying that his premise "being on Fark (and most of the internet) is a bigger waste of time than quality TV" was false. Perhaps my initial phrasing was too obtuse.

Extending that line of thinking from a for-profit television drama to visiting a museum
is ridiculous, as the two are nothing alike. Pretty much anything other than watching television
has a higher potential for enrichment. That doesn't mean that television can't be enriching,
but if you can't concede even that, well, fark, good luck to you ya gibbering first-year philosopher.

And Twilight Zone was good, it was just surrounded by a decade of crap on either side.

I'm sure you'll get a couple of bites with that. Mad Men is overrated. A decent show, but nowhere in the same league as Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.

I watched the first season of Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad is nowhere near as good as the hype and fanboys would have you believe.

I thought that, too.

I'm not a TV guy and only picked up the DVDs because they were on sale and my sister had been pushing me.

It picks up as it goes along and I actually ended up watching the last season as it aired and tolerated the commercials. Something I haven't done in 15 years.

Imma so old... when we were little, we had a TV which was really old THEN. Well, when someone wanted to be a passive-aggressive dick, they'd set the channel and pull out the channel knob and just hide it.

The thing popped in and out easily. The way it worked, you couldn't even turn it with a screwdriver, it was an unslotted, keyed shaft. And it was set too far back to even grip with pliers. Without it that exact item, there wasn't any way you'd ever change the channel unless that person ponied it back up. And there was only one TV in the house here, and back in those days they didn't replay a lot of things on TV. A lot of them were one-shot things and of course it long predated Youtube, bittorrent, or DVD collections.

The first episode of Breaking Bad was a pretty good lead in. By mid-season it kind of slowed down a bit to just character development. I was ready to quit by then but my son kept pushing me to keep watching. Well, by mid-season 2, I was hooked. That character growth is necessary for the huge payouts from the next 4 seasons. GoT has fake boobies and real boobies. Just like porn. The shear quantity of free internet porn boobies make it easy enough to find something better than GoT, and you don't have to wait a week in the hopes you might catch a glimpse with porn. That wasn't entirely Dark Angels fault, I mean having a show about a dystopian fascist police state in the near future following a major terrorist attack on us soil was fine in 2000, early 2001, but then it all hit a little close to home so they retooled it a bit and made it about mutants.
