frepnog: FirstNationalBastard: Breaking Bad is nowhere near as good as the hype and fanboys would have you believe.

compared to the turds that most of the networks are crapping out, Breaking Bad is fantastic tv. Compared to good literature, sure it comes up lacking. But it is stellar tv, and if you are going to watch tv shows you can do much much worse than Breaking Bad.

TV is pretty good these days, especially compared to the shiat we used to watch in the 80's-90's. Shows like Breaking Bad actually look like they cost something to make and have decent actors that sell their roles.

Even if you don't care for the subject matter, saying Breaking Bad "isn't as good as the hype" is just stupid. The entire "Gus" arc was just brilliant tv.

But, it's not as good as the hype. Breaking Bad gets more fellatio from fanboys than Ron Jeremy has gotten from porn chicks in his career. While it is a decent show, it's not as good as the hype would have you believe.

Hell, the entire premise of Breaking Bad sounds like a bad 90s sitcom.

This must be sublime trolling, cause I would have watched the shiat out of that if it had existed. Maybe with a Newsradio-like vibe.

I'm sure you'll get a couple of bites with that. Mad Men is overrated. A decent show, but nowhere in the same league as Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.

I watched the first season of Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad is nowhere near as good as the hype and fanboys would have you believe.

That's because the 1st season is nowhere NEAR as good as the 3rd and 4th! IMHO, the show has "gotten better with age"

I hear this defense all the time with comics.

"B-b-b-b-but... you only read the first issue! How can you tell if something is any good just by reading the first issue? You have to read the entire story arc to be able to judge it!"

If you heard someone say "The Simpsons sucked" followed by "I watched all of season 1, so I know" would you take them seriously?

Actually, a 90s sitcom based on the same premise as Breaking Bad might have been pretty good.

...as long as it wasn't a UPN or WB sitcom, like Homeboys in Outer Space, or the Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer.

Great Janitor: The thing about 11 is that he's the fun quirky Doctor that I would have loved to have seen more from #10.

The other side of that coin is that 11 can be brittle and petulant when things aren't working out for him. Yeah, he's fun most of the time, but he's occasionally harder to respect than either 9 or 10.

I sunk roughly 10 hours into the show. It was okay. But it wasn't impressive enough to bother coming back for season 2.

Well, did you sink 10 hours into the show, or did you just watch the first season? The first season is 7 episodes, which are really about 45 minutes each without commercials, so closer to 5 hours.

frepnog: But it wasn't impressive enough to bother coming back for season 2.

In my experience, season 2 is usually when shows take off. If the first season has promise, season 2 usually rocks. They usually don't jump the shark or start coasting until seasons 5 or 6. ST:TNG, B5, ST:DS9, Buffy, revived Dr Who, Big Bang Theory, Mad Men, among many many others

Only show I can think of off the top of my head that had a promising first season and immediately jumped the shark in S2 was Dark Angel.

Breaking Bad owns every other show out there. The show is so awesome, you can actually make any comic strip funnier just by replacing the dialog with BB quotes. This works quite well for Dennis the Menace.

Charged with third degree attempted assault AND third degree menacing. This brings up a few questions.
Can you attempt assault and not be menacing?
Why is it attempted assault, while menacing was apparently successful?
Can you be charged one without the other?
What is the difference between third degree menacing and first degree?
There are many more, I am sure. But IANAL.

11 is still growing on me. Not bad, but not best. We'll have to see how he does without Amy and Rory. I'm eager to find out how (or IF) they're going to bring Oswin back from the dead. Given how many times Rory died and came back, it's within the realm of possibility; but I wouldn't put it past them to throw us a curve ball and reintroduce the actress as a completely different character. (Also not without precedent)

10 has actually displaced 4 as my favorite Doctor; I'd have liked to have had a couple more seasons of him before he regenerated. Amy and Rose still can't hold a candle to Sarah Jane, though. Or Leela, Ace, or Romana for that matter. Jack and Rory are both better male companions than of the ones from the classic series, except maybe the Brigadier.

My point is that one has a far greater chance of engaging in enriching activity while on fark (or more widely, the internet)
than one does while watching a televised drama.

The former is a user-defined mixture of active and passive activity, while the latter is solely passive.
