Majick Thise: If Romney makes a 'zinger' that's actually funny = 1 drink ( I will be the soberest person on the planet tonight... well other than Romney himself)

I would take away the funny qualification.

/I want to at least get a buzz

I saw this one first and immediately though of Fark. Behold, here is a thread. However, I like this image better than TFA.

I might actually have watched the debate tonight, if this wasn't the opening night of the county fair.

/hot like the fury of an irate voter.

Katolu: I'm drinking in preparation of the debate. It will make it less painful.

Same here. Drinking some hard honeycrisp apple cider right now to ease myself into it, then I've got a bottle of malbec to crack into once I get some food into me. I've watched just about all the debates since I was fourteen, but this will be my first time attempting to turn it into a drinking game.

/I'm going to pass out, aren't I?

tooeasy: Obama had an unassailable majority briefly, and an unquestioned majority for two years, and there was no Wall Street reform. His economic team is made up of guys who profited from Wall Street raping the country (key guys behind the decision not to regulate derivatives, who then made a killing off of that decision). He hasn't met a corporation he doesn't love. And somehow the Republicans are the party out to screw the little guy. I'm against Obama largely because the press gives him so little scrutiny. It is unhealthy for any democracy when a ruler is given a free pass from the press, and the Univision interview hammered home how little scrutiny this administration receives. We are turning into a banana republic, and another term for Obama will only hasten the decline (the three richest counties in America aren't in New York or LA, they're suburbs of DC-wealth is flowing from the rest of the country to the capital as the people suffer)

So vote for.....?

This should be interesting.

It would be cool if the president said, "Now let me be clear...(wink)....I know some of you will be taking a drink now...."

Turn off Fox News.

Cpl.D: I got a ten dollar bet with a co-worker, to the effect that not only will Romney shoot his own campaign in the foot,

Well, yeah.

Cpl.D: painfully obvious even to the most zealot Republican that his campaign is finished

Nope. I mean, some of them are still stuck on "the South will rise again!1"

You forgot to mention those three richest counties got that way before Obama became President:

Link

Howard County Virginia had over $101,000 median household income going back to 2005
Loudoun County Virginia had over $112,000 median household income going back to 2005
Falls Church Virginia had over $113,000 median household income going back to 2005

The distribution of wealth from taxpayers to the corrupt rich happened under Bush's watch.

GentDirkly: If you watch the debate on PBS, you might see my face when they talk to a "room full of undecided voters" in Orlando. Yes, we are real people. Who have real trouble making up their minds!

If you're seriously undecided at this point, you haven't been paying attention, and are obviously mindless idiots.

well, i didn't forget to mention it. it has't gotten any better under Obama; rather, it's gotten worse . I think any citizen should be shocked and outraged against that regardless of party. Like i said, my biggest problem with obama is that there is no press watchdog. it's bad for democracy

well i'm voting for romney (i voted for obama 4 years ago). my only hope is that as governor in massachussetts, his values were rooted in pragmatism, not ideology, and hopefully he could do the same as President. he's been a lousy candidate. then again, bush and obama were terrific candidates; maybe that's not all it's cracked up to be

serial_crusher: "If a candidate drinks water, 1 drink"

Who's verifying the contents of those bottles? If I had to argue with either one of those guys for an hour, I'd have something a lot stronger than water in my bottle.

White rum, simple syrup, water, a few drops of mint extract.

A very slight variant on the mojito, tasty, can pack a nice punch if you have enough rum in it, but looks "normal" in a water bottle, and goes down smooth.

Then again, I knew a guy in college who started the day with a big 20 oz bottle of orange soda he would carry around, except it was about 50% soda, 50% vodak, an el-cheapo screwdriver, and he kept a buzz all through the day. I suspect he just might have been a little bit of an alcoholic.

I hope that SNL can do the debates up to the quality of the Bush/Gore debates of 2000. Can you say lockbox? Linky

carrion_luggage: phritz: I figure this is worth posting one more time, so here is part of tomorrow's transcript from the debate:

Jim Lehrer: You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down...
Mitt Romney: What desert?
Lehrer: It doesn't make any difference what desert, it's completely hypothetical. You look down and see a tortoise, Mitt. It's crawling toward you...
Romney: Tortoise? What's that?
Lehrer: [irritated by Mitt's interruptions] You know what a turtle is? Same thing.
Romney: I've never seen a turtle... But I understand what you mean.
Lehrer: You reach down and you flip the tortoise over on its back, Mitt.
Romney: Do you make up these questions, Mr. Lehrer? Or do they write 'em down for you?
Lehrer: The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.
Romney: [angry at the suggestion] What do you mean, I'm not helping?
Lehrer: I mean: you're not helping! Why is that, Mitt?
[Mitt has become visibly shaken]
Lehrer: They're just questions, Mitt. In answer to your query, they're written down for me. It's a debate, designed to judge your competency for the presidency... Shall we continue?

Lehrer: Describe in single words only the good things that come into your mind about... your gardener.

Nice.

Miss Stein: turbocucumber: What, a teacher is leading the debate? I wonder if either of those two candidates learn anything...

/for those of you who don't understand German: Lehrer = teacher

What a professor named Lehrer may look like:
[i759.photobucket.com image 260x320]

I was lucky enough to have him for a math class a year or two before he finally retired. Awesome guy, tough class.

For anyone wanting to watch on Roku, the WSJ and HuffPost channels will both carry the debate. I'm sure some of the others might be as well (FoxNews, Roku News, etc).

2012-10-03 07:16:52 PM
If you want to stay sober, just play, "If one of them actually gives a substantive answer, drink."

2012-10-03 07:22:09 PM
President Obama: Jim, I'd like to interrupt here and answer that question as if it were my turn to speak. Jim, let me tell about a friend of mine. [ holds up a picture of an elderly woman ] Her name is Etta Munsen. She's 94, she's a widow living on Social Security in Sparta, Tennessee. Etta was born with only one kidney. She also suffers from poilo, spinal menengitis, lung, liver, and pancreatic cancer, an enlarged heart, diabetes, and a rare form of styctic acne. Now, several recent strokes, along with an unfortunate shark attack, have left her paralyzed and missing her right leg under the knee. Just last week she woke from a coma to find that, due to a hospital mix-up, her left arm had been amputated, infected with syphillis, and then reattached.

Jim Lehrer: Mr. Vice-President, we are short of time..

President Obama: As you can imagine, Jim.. Etta's prescription drug bills are staggering. They run to nearly $113 million a day! And she tells me that some weeks she has to choose between eating and treating her Lyme Disease. Now, under my plan, Etta's prescription drugs would be covered. Under my opponent's plan, her house would be burned to the ground. And that is wrong. That isjust wrong!

Jim Lehrer: Governor Bush? Response?

Governor Romney: I believe that some of those figures may be in-ock-urate.

President Obama: Jim, what you just heard from my opponent is an attack on my integrity and my character. And I will not reply in kind. Instead, I will take those remarks and tuck them away, away in a tiny "lock-box", where all bad thoughts go.

Jim Lehrer: Well, that brings us to the close of tonight's debate. Each candidate will now give a brief closing statement.

President Obama: Jim, may I make two closing statements?

Jim Lehrer: I'm afraid not. In fact, we are almost out of time, so I will instead ask each candidate to sum up, in a single word, the best argument for his candidacy. Governor Bush?

Governor Romney: Strategery.

Jim Lehrer: [ stunned ] President Obama.

President Obama: "Lock-box".

/The classics never go out of style...

Rules as follows:

1. Every time Obama gives himself credit for something he did not do, hit one shot of tequila;

2. Every time Obama blames Bush, chug one Heineken;

3. Every time the press says Romney fuc--dup when Obama did, slam one double of vodka.

I figure over/under to be unconscious under the table is about 5 minutes flat at this rate.

\\\ \\\ \\\ Exactly my intention all along.

I'm going to mainline a pint of WD40 every time Obama nearly collapses on stage and has his helpers cover him with a cape and help him off stage. Every time Obama throws off the cape, I'm going to cut off a leg.

I'll also be having a drink of Mike's Harder every time the candidates get asked a stupid question.
