SevenizGud: Oh so this show is bad, right? I mean, rewarding the fail is bad, right?

Yet welfare is fine. We pay people to be parasites as a lifestyle for multiple generations, with queens shooting out career felons left and right. Yet you still vote for the dumbocraps?

You are the opposite of a NIMBY. You don't want 16 year old pregnant girls on TV, but you DO want the culture that fosters that behavior to be institutionalized by one political party as part of a vote-breeding program. Good job dipshiat. YOU are the problem.

Kneejerk any harder, and you'll dislocate it.

wantedbadass: Cythraul: Just going by the one episode of that show that I wanted, they made the misery of their situation pretty obvious. This teenage kid got pregnant, started talking about the sacrifices she was going to make in order to make this new life as a teenage mom work. She was going to drop out of high school, work a part time job, socialize with her friends and maintain her hobbies, and go to community college to get a GED and later an associates, all the while trying to maintain a relationship with the baby's father and be a mother.

Not to say that the relationship problems and social struggles aren't real, but the financial stuff on that show is completely bullshiat. The mothers on the show make around $65k per season. That's for each parent, btw. And I assume the other people (grandparents, friends, etc.) also make at least $20k for appearing on the show. Sure, it's only for one (or maybe two?) years, but it's enough to maintain the decidedly white trash lifestyle they're accustomed to, even with an unplanned child in the mix.

I bet the kids on 16 & pregnant don't make anywhere near that. That amount is for the first group who are now established "stars". No reason to pay a nobody teenager $65K when you know you can find thousands that be willing to do it for a couple thousand.

TheLopper: funzyr: Just wait for Honey Boo Boo to get on this show in about 10 or 12 years.

10 or 12? I think you're being generous there.

She'll be Grandma Boo Boo by then.

Three-Fifty: In other words, stupid people stay stupid.

I wish adoption and abortion were more acceptable in this country. 'Sacrificing' oneself to raise a child through struggle is held up as some ultimate act of responsibility and honor. Wrong, sad, and sick. It really sucks for the kid and it sucks for society - but the moms get so much praise for being "brave", "strong", "amazing" and "unselfish." That's their reward. These are girls/women who want and get praise and positive reinforcement for having babies. Take away the "motherhood worship." and the problem would decrease. People pretty much ignore you if you have an abortion -- where's the fun in that?? You can't put pics of your non-pregnancy on Facebook.

Bring back orphanages and see if Starbucks will add free contraception to the menu.

This.

I grew up with a pretty devoutly religious mother, but she was modern-minded enough to teach me I had birth control options. I've been on birth control since I was sixteen, and ten years later, I'm still happily childless.

Single mother friends of mine always seem to be digging for sympathy from me, but honestly, I have none. Take your pills or close your legs. Not that farking hard to figure out.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that young girls who received attention for their pregnancies would go and get pregnant again. I mean, what are the odds of them engaging in the same attention-seeking behavior twice in a row, amirite?

shortymac: I know there's a lot of misinformation, etc when it comes to BC and pregnancy. You would think that after the first one they would use condoms and BC.

BC should be free and plentiful, better 1 mistake than 2.

In my perfect world, condoms would be handed out daily in every Jr High and High School in the country. Here's your homework, and here's some condoms. Have a good weekend. There'd be free condom dispensers in every public restroom. You could walk into any corner store and pick up a box free of charge. Condoms would be in boxes of cereal and cracker jacks like prizes. There'd be cookie jars of condoms on every bar next to the pretzels. Your latte at starbucks would come with a coffee flavored condom. If you couldn't get out, you could call up and have some delivered.

I can't think of many better ways to spend my fantasy country's tax dollars than ensuring that all babbies are planned, wanted babbies. Not to mention the decrease in STDs.
