Why would you want them to stay away from your Coke?

Duh!
You can jump out of the helicopter and snipe from the gearbox nacelle.
We can't have that.

Top secret base is not so top secret when you read about it on fark.

2012-10-03 10:34:36 AM
The Chinese company shouldn't push this. After all, once the president blocks a Chinese company, he'll want to block another one an hour later.

See! See, libs! I told you Obonger hates green energy and he's only pretending to like it so he can get invited to Al Gore's sex parties.

Yeah, you just think about that.

I see nothing wong with this.

They just want to know if anybody has those launch cooooooodes...

What gets me is that some Republicans are actually dinging Obama for this.

I guess because they're used to their elected leaders handing over military secrets to the Chinese, like Bush did with that spy plane.

farking Rightards.

Why are we trusting a Chinese company to build a wind farm here in the first place?

A communist country that is actively engaged in economic warfare with the US, has a long and storied history of espionage, and potentially could come to a shooting war with us over Tiawan wants to buy land inside the restricted airspace around one of our military research bases - and get blocked by executive order.

That much makes sense. What blows my mind is that the GOP is fighting for the Communist Spys!

Seriously, at this point, if Obama wrestled the devil for the fate of the world - and won - the GOP would put out a press release entitled "Obama caught in homoerotic coupling with Satan!"

guilt by association: Why are we trusting a Chinese company to build a wind farm here in the first place?

Because it's a globalized economy. People in most of the other countries have been asking what you just asked about American companies for over 100 years.

Hmmmm... so if a US company tries to build a wind farm close to a top secret Chinese military base, I wonder how the government of the PRC would react...

2012-10-03 10:49:35 AM
This is great news... for Obama.

Seriously: he gets lots of free publicity for "standing up to China", even more than he got for the original decision itself, undercutting yet another GOP attack ad and offering him the opportunity to double down on both the "energy security" talking point and the "Romney sent jobs to China" talking point.

Meanwhile, the GOP can either sulk in the corner or side with the Chinese. Awkward.

Hardly. Vote neither. Maybe then we can get out of this "douche or turd sandwich" cycle we've been in for at least the last ten years.

After the election Obama will give China the military base and then China can build its wind farm.

Oh yes, this is the ethos of the modern Chinese society, learned from 1980's Japan. Blatantly attempt to use any and all means to manipulate every situation to their own benefit, and then when they get caught gaming the system, piss and moan about how they get marginalized for being Asian. What the hell, it worked for the Latinos.

What I want to know is who buys the wind farms now that this company was denied and does this new company have ties to Obama. I have a feeling there is more to this than a security concern.

We could do what the Chinese do and arrest the heads of that Ralls Corporation then hold a "trial" where the outcome is all of them get canned to some forgotten hellhole for stealing national secrets

More of these jerk-bags need to get kicked in the nuts more often.

The trade tariffs. The IP theft. The cyber attacks. The Chinese are a threat, man. And if you're in bed with the Chinese, well you're gonna get kicked in the nuts, too.

Use them for manufacturing, sure. But I believe in fair play. And you don't get to fark around with all that rubber, steel, precious metal, etc and get to do whatever you want for as long as you want, with the dumping, theft, attacks, land and sea theft, etc. The beatin' stick has to come out occasionally.

Not to mention that the Chinese will sell you up the river in a heartbeat if you're not Chinese. Was dumb of the US and US Companies to move most of their manufacturing and materials sourcing to China, leaves us really vulnerable. Especially since it is a certainty that Wang Peng, CEO of General Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. drinks Baijiu with all of the CCP party heads at banquets. Not to mention that Wang has the CCP cronies to thank for his riches, he'll do what they say when they call.

If we really wanted to stick a thorn in China's side and still get manufacturing for cheap, Vietnam is the answer. They're very proud to have kicked China's ass in a war (The Chinese don't acknowledge that they lost) AND have a claim on the disputed islands China wants so badly.

ftfa: Xinhua said Ralls is owned by two executives of Sany Group, China's largest machinery manufacturer.

In addition, a minority stake in the venture is held by executives from Magnetbox and Panaphonic.

I'm content to let them eat themselves up from the inside. We don't want to give them a common enemy.

I've loving the Japanese owned island issue. Have you seen China considers its maritime borders? Laughable.

Their internal building frenzy cannot hold. Their internal monetary policy cannot hold. Their trade protectionism cannot hold, and their resource grabbing cannot hold.

They go completely insane with their GDP growth is less than 10% a year. They are due for a fall. And I wouldn't be happy about that, except they are such nationalistic hivemind dirtballs.

I would love to get some of this manufacturing business moved away. How hard is it to get a couple warehouses with clean power? Shenzhen is not the center of the planet.
