(TV Guide)   Not interested in the debates tonight? Well, you could watch Supernatural on the CW, A&E has Storage Wars: Texas, the Top Chef All-Stars battle it out on Bravo, and Comedy Central has a South Park marathon. Is this a great country or what?   (tvguide.com) divider line 152

Oh and also:

What's the matter with your DVRs that you have to choose what to watch over something else?

Record everything you want to see, then watch it whenever you want and fast-forward the commercials. This isn't rocket surgery.

Someone's taken over my television!!!

moonbattery.com

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to - The Outer Limits.

I don't care about the debates. I'll get the highlights in a couple of blogs tomorrow morning (or late tonight). I still have to catch up on Law & Order UK--there's a backlog on my DVR plus BBC America is running a marathon today and tonight.

/Goddamn debates mean I have to wait two weeks to see new pictures of Mariska Hargitay. Damn you politicians and your need to grandstand at every opportunity

URAPNIS: The only reason I'm going to watch the debates is to hear what Gary Johnson has to say.

I see what you did there

I_C_Weener: Isn't Supernatural still reruns from last season?

New season and I can't friggin wait

2012-10-03 12:36:32 PM
Wait, there's still a TV Guide?

2012-10-03 12:38:50 PM

ghare: The debates will not be as funny as Suuth Park reruns, but it will be close. What's the line on Obama making Romney melt down?

South Park is new tonight!

NeoCortex42: Any suggestions on the best network to watch the debate on? It looks like all the networks and news stations are carrying it. I'm leaning towards watching on C-SPAN. How's their coverage for this stuff usually?

Better than any of the networks. Less hype, more substance.

Yea, me too. All three channels.

Hey, don't mock. I only get the free TV :(

/it's up to 5 now

You might want to look for Antenna TV, MeTV, RTV and THIS.

I'll be playing in my weekly pool tournament at Tommy's Casino and Saloon...baseball will probably be on in the background somewhere. Debate? What debate? Both of the the candidates can go fark themselves....

2012-10-03 12:41:03 PM
CW's target audience is people too young to vote (no, seriously, that's not me being derogatory, their target is something like 13-17 and Supernatural being liked by older people is kind of an accident), A+E's target audience is too stupid to vote (see? that was me being derogatory) and Comedy Central's political shows are mostly scripted before 8 central when the debate starts, so they need a day to go over the coverage and work out their bits.

So... no, subby. I don't find this particularly ignorant or offensive even before you get to the "why would we show something that's on broadcast TV for free and also most of the news channels?" factor.

I mean, I'm watching the debate tonight, but I'm doing so with like 15 friends/neighbors and a 12-pack of beer (and that's just what I'm drinking, heyoooooooo) so frankly I can't legitimately claim that I think they're srs bzns either. People that have other shiat to do tonight and will catch up by reading the paper's coverage of it tomorrow or the interminable bombardment of clips on cable news over the next couple weeks will, I suspect, be fine.

2012-10-03 12:43:07 PM

Evil Mackerel: doubled99: Even if you're truly concerned about the election, the "debates" are devoid of any real substance and a complete waste of time.

I'll get the highlights from NPR tomorrow.

Basically my thoughts. If anything interesting gets said it'll be all over the punditosphere, Daily Show, Fark, etc. That way we needn't sit through all the mind-numbing talking-point recitation.

Oakland and Texas and Washington will all be BEFORE the debate.

As others have said, the only way the debate is interesting is if someone goes off message and melts down. If that happens, it will be on Youtube in all its glory (and in every farking attack ad between now and 6 Nov). The only time the debate is interesting is when you have someone like Bush I v. Clinton where they're both statesmen and there's a potential they'll actually get into a bit. Romney is just going to spew soundbites and get the hell fact checked out of him.

Playing Guild Wars 2 or Borderlands 2. Probably both.

TV off, music on, cooking, reading before bed. Not voting for Obama due to his non-vocalized (but DoJ lawsuited) support for NDAA Section 1021; not voting for R-money for too many damned obvious reasons. What debates?

Wait, are these things real in that show? I never watch primetime CW, because, as someone mentioned upthread, I'm not a teenager. But if that show really does have teddy bears with guns and unicorns farting rainbows I might give it a shot.

Why anyone would tune in to watch two professional liars spout even more meaningless lies is completely beyond me. You already know they are corrupt tools in the service of corporate interests and either one will happily sell the American public down the river in a second.

I stumbled across Supernatural on A&E (?) and DVR'ed and watched two episodes each day from Season 1. Right now I'm caught up to where Sam inexplicably came back from Hell and Crowley was forced to give Bobby's soul back to him.

I didn't even know until a week or so ago that they were still making first-run episodes! I haven't watched any of the newer stuff on CW yet.

The only problem with the show is that they seem to keep killing off characters just as they are getting interesting (except Castiel, who just. won't. die.)

I'll be buring my head in sand so it can seem as though I am not part of it.

Well, that's when there were about four channels total. And it probably wasn't on the Weird Al-style UHF channel even then.

I'd forgotten the Supernatural season starts tonight! Too bad I've already committed to the debate drinking game. Guess I'll just catch it on Hulu+ tomorrow.

DjangoStonereaver: the_rev: I'm thinking I will go with "biatchin' Kitchen."

I should love that show: I mean:

But I find her affected faux-New York tough chick accent grating in the extreme, and I'm someone
who doesn't mind Fran Drescher's braying.

Holy cow. Is'nt that what a volume control is for? I mean, you're not watching the show to hear her talk are you?

Borderlands 2 for me. I'm so tired of politics except when I am drunk and I need to give my liver a break for a while.

I'm catching up on burn notice on Netflix. I also saw new episodes of mythbusters and dirty jobs in the instant views. My nights planned.

Supernatural is one of those shows that really sucked me in.
We have friends who come by to watch the show with us whenever a new season opens up.
It's kinda fun to have an evening with pals, and my 200 pound mastiff gets mad belly rubbins

There's certainly no way in hell I wanna watch the debates.
americants will keep voting in weaker leaders no matter what happens

I'll watch Castiel
and Castiel watches the bees

As an Obama supporter, I do agree that had the Republican primary voters not all been derpy derpy do and picked Huntsman, Obama would be in deep doo doo right now. Of course, the policy differences between Huntsman and Romney are virtually non-existant, although I must say Huntsman would have at least been a competent stateman, which Romney would not be, to say the least.

I don't have an idoit box either.I, personally, would rather spend my time doing something useful than watch television

I'm really lucky to have almost perfect vision. I'm guessing it's because I don't watch TV. In fact, I don't even own one

Most of the time, I don't get many of the references people make here because I don't own a TV. I certainly could have afforded, that wasn't the issue-I decided to stand up to the glass teat

I'm not an elitist,It's just that I'd much rather sculpt or write in my journal or read Proust than sit there passively staring at some phosphorescent screen.

If I need a fix of passive audio-visual stimulation, I'll go to catch a Bergman or Truffaut film down at the university. I certainly wouldn't waste my time watching the so-called Learning Channel or, God forbid, any of the mind sewage the major networks pump out.

People don't realize just how much time their TV-watching habit-or, shall I say, addiction-eats up. Four hours of television a day, over the course of a month, adds up to 120 hours. That's five entire days! Why not spend that time living your own life, instead of watching fictional people live theirs? I can't begin to tell you how happy I am not to own a television

CapeFearCadaver: Sybarite: Do any of those have drinking games?

What are the game's rules this year?

Dunno about the official rules, but I'll be playing it as "every time someone says something that makes me facepalm" and "every time someone talks over the moderator".

When I run out of drinks, I'll just go back to work on the armature for my life-sized plush velociraptor.
