(TV Guide)   Not interested in the debates tonight? Well, you could watch Supernatural on the CW, A&E has Storage Wars: Texas, the Top Chef All-Stars battle it out on Bravo, and Comedy Central has a South Park marathon. Is this a great country or what?   (tvguide.com) divider line 152

The debates will not be as funny as Suuth Park reruns, but it will be close. What's the line on Obama making Romney melt down?

Sure, you could watch corporate-sponsored, scripted entertainment, or you could skip the debates and watch something else.

There are some critical games in the AL tonight. Oakland and Texas face off for the division and the Yankees and Orioles still have to decide the AL East. Good night to have Extra Innings.

She actually grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Quebec, and her parents are Italian. So I think her accent is genuine, although I agree it's grating.

They should combine Storage Wars with the debates. Like, whenever one of them makes a good point, you could have Dave yell, "YUUUUUUUUUUUUP!"

Yeah, every time they talk about their feelings on Supernatural, but say they don't want to, drink. For all I know, that'll work in the debate, too.

No, I'm not interested in the debate to help me decide who is the lesser of two evils.

Is it too much to ask for a candidate I actually want to see in the Oval Office? There hasn't been one since I was allowed to vote.

I may just listen to the debates on the radio and draw pictures of what they look like in my mind when they are speaking. Although I don't know if I want to sit around drawing pictures of weasels and Pinocchio.

I find it much more entertaining to watch all the talking heads whargargling after it's over, trying to declare who "won".
/and of course, they're all completely objective and unbiased, so you can trust what they say to be totally true

Supernatural is actually a really fun show that deserves more than the stigma of being on the CW. And this is coming from someone who never got into all that Buffy/Firefly/Farscape/Gossip Girl shows. This is an actual "good" CW show in my opinion. Lots of gore and funny moments and they avoid the soap opera stuff.

Someone's taken over my television!!!

moonbattery.com

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to - The Outer Limits.

I'll be playing in my weekly pool tournament at Tommy's Casino and Saloon...baseball will probably be on in the background somewhere. Debate? What debate? Both of the the candidates can go fark themselves....

2012-10-03 12:41:03 PM
CW's target audience is people too young to vote (no, seriously, that's not me being derogatory, their target is something like 13-17 and Supernatural being liked by older people is kind of an accident), A+E's target audience is too stupid to vote (see? that was me being derogatory) and Comedy Central's political shows are mostly scripted before 8 central when the debate starts, so they need a day to go over the coverage and work out their bits.

So... no, subby. I don't find this particularly ignorant or offensive even before you get to the "why would we show something that's on broadcast TV for free and also most of the news channels?" factor.

I mean, I'm watching the debate tonight, but I'm doing so with like 15 friends/neighbors and a 12-pack of beer (and that's just what I'm drinking, heyoooooooo) so frankly I can't legitimately claim that I think they're srs bzns either. People that have other shiat to do tonight and will catch up by reading the paper's coverage of it tomorrow or the interminable bombardment of clips on cable news over the next couple weeks will, I suspect, be fine.

As others have said, the only way the debate is interesting is if someone goes off message and melts down. If that happens, it will be on Youtube in all its glory (and in every farking attack ad between now and 6 Nov). The only time the debate is interesting is when you have someone like Bush I v. Clinton where they're both statesmen and there's a potential they'll actually get into a bit. Romney is just going to spew soundbites and get the hell fact checked out of him.

I stumbled across Supernatural on A&E (?) and DVR'ed and watched two episodes each day from Season 1. Right now I'm caught up to where Sam inexplicably came back from Hell and Crowley was forced to give Bobby's soul back to him.

I didn't even know until a week or so ago that they were still making first-run episodes! I haven't watched any of the newer stuff on CW yet.

The only problem with the show is that they seem to keep killing off characters just as they are getting interesting (except Castiel, who just. won't. die.)

As an Obama supporter, I do agree that had the Republican primary voters not all been derpy derpy do and picked Huntsman, Obama would be in deep doo doo right now. Of course, the policy differences between Huntsman and Romney are virtually non-existant, although I must say Huntsman would have at least been a competent stateman, which Romney would not be, to say the least.

Your not voting for Obama due to something he didn't say? Are you a member of the Psychic Friends Network? Can you read minds? Are you a magician?

Um, he heads the executive branch. Are you trying to tell us that what a politician says is more important than what he does?

I'm really lucky to have almost perfect vision. I'm guessing it's because I don't watch TV. In fact, I don't even own one

Most of the time, I don't get many of the references people make here because I don't own a TV. I certainly could have afforded, that wasn't the issue-I decided to stand up to the glass teat

I'm not an elitist,It's just that I'd much rather sculpt or write in my journal or read Proust than sit there passively staring at some phosphorescent screen.

If I need a fix of passive audio-visual stimulation, I'll go to catch a Bergman or Truffaut film down at the university. I certainly wouldn't waste my time watching the so-called Learning Channel or, God forbid, any of the mind sewage the major networks pump out.

People don't realize just how much time their TV-watching habit-or, shall I say, addiction-eats up. Four hours of television a day, over the course of a month, adds up to 120 hours. That's five entire days! Why not spend that time living your own life, instead of watching fictional people live theirs? I can't begin to tell you how happy I am not to own a television

Actually, yes: even though she veers a bit too much into the foodie pretentious zone for me with

Surprised this hasn't come up yet:

Before we begin, I have been asked by the Bush campaign to announce that, for the next three hours only, viewers in the states of Michigan, Missouri and Pennsylvania have the option of free Pay-Per-View, courtesy of the Republican National Committee. On Channel 62, "The Perfect Storm", with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg, the film Mike Clark of USA Today called "The perfect movie". On Channel 63, the grandeur beauty and savagery of ancient Rome came to life in "Gladiator" with Russell Crowe. "Gladiator. A hero will rise." Care for something just a bit naughty? On Channel 64, ten Penthouse Pets join forces with ten Playboy Playmates to find the perfect Hustler centerfold, in "Miss Killer Body 2000". Contains nudity.

Don't expect a meltdown to happen. Obama is too smooth for that. Romney has probably been doing little more than prepping for the "debate." He won't have a 47% moment. In all probability, Obama will trounce him, but it'll be subtle. These debates don't much matter anymore. Obama's lead is steadily growing and this is not expected to change. Romney lost this election on September 17th.

I think he'll have his worst appearance yet. Romney is terrible at three things:

1. Speaking to crowds. He just doesn't have a likable, personable bone in his body. He doesn't know how to use expressions, gestures, body language or warmth to engender sympathy for himself from a crowd.

2. Debate format. When Romney has to share a stage and be equals with others, he can't handle it. He starts rules policing and lets everything get under his skin. His annoyance and anger becomes visible and he allows it to cause mistakes. This is separate from issue 3, which is:

3. Having his feet held to the fire in respect to details or having past contradictions pointed out and being asked to explain. He's proven thus far to be incapable of dealing with this.

He'll have all three to deal with in tonight's debate, and it's a recipe for disaster.

Geotpf: Ok, name somebody you'd actually like to be President then.

I can't. I see this as part of the problem. I don't like conservatives' social policies, and I don't like liberals' fiscal policies. It almost like the political environment in this country will remain stagnant as long as we maintain a two party system.

I am sure both Romney and Obama will use the Storage Wars math model when talking about the economy. "That'll bring a trillion dollars all day long." Nothing like watching those morons add up the cash they are making, them and the storage wars guys.

2012-10-03 07:09:30 PM
I wonder what kind of money you can actually make doing the storage auction thing full-time.

Obviously the key is to have a network of appraisers that can help you understand what you've found and its value, and buyers to whom you can sell the stuff you find, and/or having your own thrift shop (which really shouldn't cost too much, just find the cheapest slip in some strip mall you can find and lease it, and it's not like you have overhead other than keeping the lights on). But without that network of appraisers and buyers, you're pretty much just a junk collector. It SEEMS like you could make decent money at it eventually, with some luck, but that it would take some investment of time, effort and money before you established that money-making system.
