And here I was thinking yesterday's Axl Rose headline required too much work.

Compound sentences much?

Old people like predictability. Makers of boner pills like advertising to old people.

He's not stupid, maybe the reason he doesn't live off any of his Tonight Show money is because he's partially ashamed of that type of comedian he has to portray.

I think of all the people who were involved in the whole shiatstorm that was the Jay Leno show and the tonight show and Conan and everyone, Jay Leno is the last person who has any reason to be upset.

That headline was painful to read.

I had forgotten how great Malcolm in the Middle was. Must revisit the re-runs.

And is it just me, or is Bryan looking pretty handsome there on the couch?

He's blackmailing the network execs with compromising photos?

I just read Late Night Wars after being recommended to after our last Leno thread. I now think he's less of a douche than before, but not by much. And NBC doesn't know what the hell it is doing at all. And they really farked Conan over from the beginning. And he took it hard and a little too drama queen-y, but it's understandable and it worked out for him in the end at TBS. And really, the only ones who got screwed totally in the end were Jeff Zucker and all those dumbasses at NBC who apparently don't work there anymore after all that. It also gave me some respect for Jimmy Kimmel.

I have seen nothing that would indicate Jay Leno has as much as a modicum of shame. On the other hand, if you're looking for evidence to the contrary...

ha, I knew it would be the rollerskating lesson. Malcolm totally holds up. Their set designer alone should've won every Emmy. The fingerprints, moldy grout and dents in the walls are ridiculously realistic.

NBC has unfortunately put themselves in the position where Leno doesn't even need to bother blackmailing them. They know from the last time they tried to get rid of him, that if they do, ABC will be setting up for The Jay Leno show, to run before Kimmel, pretty much the next day. And since people (even though they are old) watch Leno, it will hurt them in the ratings. Plus I think his contract says that when he is off, substitute hosts aren't allowed, so it is pretty much impossible to try replacement hosts out or groom someone to take his place. Plus considering how Conan's tonight show couldn't really bring in the older viewers (and lost a ton of viewers overall), imagine the trainwreck if Jimmy Fallon took over the tonight show? So really they have no one to take his place, and if they get rid of him he will go somewhere else and take most of his viewers, so what exactly is NBC supposed to do at this point.

I think the author pretty much summed up what the whole situation was like in Leno's mind: he was off the air (essentially) for a period of 10 months before getting The Tonight Show right back.

I think Zucker holds 90% of the blame for the entire situation. His desperate 5-year plan to bench Leno so that they could hold on to Conan was shoddy (to say the least). I think it might've been a better career move for Conan to move over to Fox when they offered in 2004 and 2001.

However, that's not to say that Leno is an angel throughout the entire ordeal. He could've easily said "I don't like what you guys are doing on a professional and personal level, so cut me my check, & I'm outta here." Instead, he acted like a good little NBC soldier & kept going with whatever Zucker and Jeff Gaspin were handing him because all Leno wanted to do was "Tell jokes at 11:35, every night."

Conan kinda screwed himself by not stipulating the show-time start in his final Tonight Show contract. Had O'Brien had that written down that the Tonight Show under his reign was legally supposed to begin at 11:35 pm, NBC would've been screwed when they came up with the last-minute, cockeyed plane to shoe-in Jay at 11:35 and move the Tonight Show back to 12:05.

I think ad people use blue fluid for products relating to the human body because very few organic secretions are blue.

I agree. And I think looking back from where he is now, I get the feeling Conan probably feels he would be better off taking that offer, and staying on an actual major network.

Plus I also get the feeling that NBC would have been better off just showing Leno the door rather than trying to keep him by offering him the prime time show. Sure he would have gone to ABC and they would have taken a hit in the ratings initially. But even Jay Leno can't work for ever, and if you want to plan for the future you need a younger host that appeals to younger viewers. Plus even though people seem to remember Johnny Carson as an old man, the dude was only 66 when he retired. Jay Leno is 62, and will be 64 in 2014 when his contract comes up for renewal again. Considering they have no one to replace him, I can't see them not renewing it though.

Jay Leno's has higher ratings than Letterman or Kimmel. Stop your whining and deal with it. Why does does FARK continue to greenlight these articles. Leno kicks their asses in all categories not just old people. Deal with it and move on.

Why are you still riffing on this shiat? The final Tonight Show with Conan aired January 22, 2010.

Think: you're still crying like a biatch over nonsense that hasn't been newsworthy for years. Worse, it didn't effect your life in any way whatsoever.

Grow up.

The guy has range. Walter White and Hal are polar opposites and he did a great job in both roles.

Lemme guess though, Zucker probably got a 90 million dollar parachute out of there. Totally sucks for him I'm sure.
