I don't particularly like how they use the gender-neutral pronoun 'it' to refer to Kiri. Kiri may not be classifiable as a he or a she, but certainly Kiri must be considered something other than the dechimpizing term 'it'.

For serious, as much as I think chimps are bloodthirsty monsters who are best avoided at all costs... they are great apes and therefore practically human. Certainly they're sentient beings. So there ARE biomedical ethics issues at play here. Why operate to "reassign" the chimp's sex, unless being intersexed is unhealthy or distressing for the animal?
