They're not really closing. They're consolidating with the bathhouses.

All the guidos and duckfaces head straight for LA Fitness or 24 Hour Fitness and completely overlook the Y.

As a result, the showers are cleaner, the facilities are in better shape, and the clientele is less likely to judge you for being there since everyone is either trying to get in shape or cruising.

And it's usually much cheaper than any commercial gym.

damn. i thought someone was caught staying at the YMCA and they made them leave.
guess u really can spend the night there if u have no where to go.

The last Y I belonged to was only $250 a year and it had a lap pool and diving pool, my current gym is $45 a month and has no pool. The Y had to close 18 months ago due to poor membership.

I think it costs $150 a week to LIVE at the YMCA. (the one by me)
if you have zero credit and you need a place to live, what other options do you have?

The Lawson YMCA building in downtown is an awesome Art Deco tower with a huge neon "YMCA" sign on top.
