I kinda boggled at that as well. Great name for a supervillain. Not so much for an oceanographer.

It's Queensland's own fault. Scientists have been saying for years "Hey - pumping all that fertalizer and crap into the rivers is farking the reef" - but the Conservatives have said that such science is "elitist" and against the interests of rural Australians. The same people don't believe in Global Warming either, and some want to dig up parts of the reef so that they can bring bigger ships in to transport minerals to China faster.

Ummm - Labor has been in power almost continuously in QLD since 1989. And the latest batch of dredging - you might wants to give Tony Burke or Julia Gillard a call.

Not that I think the nutty QLD Nationals would do any better, but putting the blame on one party over this is pretty lame - they all need to get off their butts and do something about this.

Fark, man, didn't you get the memo? No one is going to do anything about any of it--not the coral reefs, not the extinctions, not global warming. These things all hurt the economy, and you know we can't have anything going on that hurts the economy. Because JOBS. Coral reefs or JOBS. JOBS or a functional ecosystem--it's an easy choice. Don't be a pussy. .

As a Labor supporter thankfully not in Queensland, there's nothing left wing about Queensland Labor. Politics in Queensland is about self-interest and little else, no matter which side is in power.
