I can see the teen's point. The follow-up question was pretty stupid.

I had an acquaintance who owned a bar with this issue. He was on vacation and when he returned the manager he had running the place had let some non-money spending teens loiter around the pool tables for a few days and she was scared to tell them to leave. His Glock persuaded them to leave the establishment and not return.

The interesting thing was that none of did anything about it. You figure based on A-Team episodes or Death Wish reruns that they would come back and cause trouble, but nope. Just left. Didn't return.

Are they part of the 47%? Some how we have failed these poor youth, we didn't provide them with good paying jobs and didn't try hard enough to keep them in school to get a good education. Youths like this are craving a little love and maybe some guidance in the right direction. Maybe if we bought them each a large flat screen, video games, cable subscription, and air conditioning they would socialize at each others home and end this poor mans plight.

Detroit hat trick in play (scheduled to play Syndey Crybaby, regrettably cancelled, guess I'll watch debate/drink into stupor)

I worked in a gas station in the Detroit area. Night shift. 9 PM to 9 AM. Every day.

I was held up three times. Twice with gun pointed at me. Once with a baseball bat. I was assaulted once (punched) by an unruly customer. That was my last day of work. The following week I moved out of the area and never looked back.

And for the record, they were not African Americans. Every single time, it was Chaldeans. In the Detroit area, that's shorthand for "Catholic Arabs", and they were WEALTHY little farkers... They didn't need to rob gas stations. They did it for kicks.

So... Yeah. Detroit and the entire metro area sucks. Live there only if you hate yourself.

I tried with some neighbors once who were blasting techno at 2am... since I wasn't getting any sleep anyways and might as well listen to what I want to hear. It only ended up in a blast-music-play-off. No one was the winner there.

In Detroit, you'd be lucky if they didn't start shooting at you when you tried to overpower their music.

I think I found your problem: you own a business in Detroit.

If there wasn't a minimum wage law, would these teens be hired by the gas station owner? They could run out like a Indycar crew, check tire pressure, check water/oil levels, top off the tank for you... Would these kids be willing to work for $2/hr? I mean they're standing around the gas station anyway. Why not, right?
