Well, you know what happens... First, it's the ankles... then the knees... then they'll start wearing their skirts like cummerbunds.

Yeah... that would, uh... be... terrible... Hell in a hand-basket. Yup.

One thing Mormons have is the uncanny ability to produce attractive women.
Mentally, they're damaged like any other devotee, but they are certainly beautiful.

The Native Americans would be proud to see it.

FTFA: Students believed they were following the dress code when they spent hundreds of dollars on their festive wear, but one by one, were turned away. As many as half the students were rejected at the door. 'It was just utter shock at first,' said Amber Hesleph to KSL. 'Here we are spending all this time and everything and then we get there and they just turn us away. It's just kind of depressing.' Parents who were dropping their children off, after first taking memorable snapshots of their teens, were also flabbergasted at the melee. 'If you're going to arbitrarily paint scarlet letters all over children, then something has to change,' Donna Hesleph, Amber's mother, said. Many parents and students shared their frustration on a Facebook page titled 'Stansbury High Homecoming Spirit Massacre.' More than 3,300 people liked it by this morning.

If this was some Mormon conspiracy then it apparently backfired on the Mormon youth and their Mormon parents. And I for one welcome our new Nathaniel Hawthorne referencing overlords.

I noticed that several of the girls were wearing little bolero jackets to cover up bare shoulders/sleeveless dresses. That's definitely a Mormon thing. I'm sure that they thought that they were in compliance with the dress code. They all look fine to me. No cleavage, no side boob, no short hemlines. I can't believe they were turned away by school administrators who were probably standing at the door measuring with a ruler how far above the knee each girl's hemline was. What a horrid way to ruin what should have been a very special evening for these kids!

In other news, Utah's Rent a Minority reports strong demand as many high school teens rent one or two minority girls to pose in their Facebook Photos.

"These girls want to get in to colleges on the coasts and they know the colleges will be looking at their Facebook timeline. What better way to show the prospective college that you are a cosmopolitan, liberal female than by having a photo taken with a minority 'friend'?" says the owner of Rent a Minority.

Rent a Minority uses a helicopter to shuttle the states three minority teen females to photo ops. "The parents pay for the helicopter. They sure as hell don't want the kid going to a community college where they wind up with a career like trying to sell ad space on Google over the phone. If they think their kid has a chance to be Kim Kardashian's candid photo coordinator, they'd spring for a Harrier jet."

Photo ops are scheduled so the non minority kids can have time to clean up and get to the dance. "They may also need time for counseling having come in to direct contact with a minority. We offer that too" says Rent a Minority Owner.

The only reason Mormons are still not violent a-holes is because the army was sent into their territory in 1858 with orders to hang all the leaders if they would not calm down. A bit of rope, and a direct threat of violence against the leaders, has a way of moderating a religion.

If they had essentially remained their own country, they would be sitting off bombs in California.

this thread shows how ignorant most of you are of actual Utah reality.
Utah parents have a right to be concerned. haven't you ever heard of how obsessed with sex most of them are? most other activities are prohibited. it's the same kind of thing that people say about catholic school girls.
i've lived in southern utah for 5 years now and have watched at least a half dozen 16-18 year old girls get pregnant and married by the age of 18 (in a town of 200) - they are not fundies - fundamentalists are RARE, not the norm. it has more to do with being so close to a pioneer lifestyle & ranching, etc. than any religious belief - kids who grow up rurally having to do real work & are away from BS cultural brainwashing (i.e. no easy access to 'the culture of the spectacle'), are surrounded by nature rather than an abstracted humanist urban reality, and grow up and mature much faster than city kids. small town children interact more with adults and are more able to converse in a mature manner as well. there aren't age separations like there are elsewhere.
plus, mormon's don't rule utah as much as you think. i happen to live in the state and they have little to no affect on me or my lifestyle. more frustrating are self righteous psuedo intellectual liberals who come on vacation and proclaim how wise & smart they are and then can't manage to use a farking gas pump & buy bottles water while wearing a 'reduce/reuse/recycle' shirt then proclaim to know more about the culture of the area than locals do after spending only a few days traveling through.

Waldo Pepper: maybe these girls should have understood the rules a little bit better.

I'm honestly getting tired of the news reporting on children who are denied something at school due to their own/parents failure to understand simple rules.

if the rule is your dress has to be knee length and your knees can't be exposed, how hard is that to understand

doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with the rule, it's the rule.

Actually, the rule was "at or near knee length". Lots of girls who followed that rule were barred anyway. As a result, the principal apologized and has promised to hold another dance to try to make up for what happened.

But, I still think the hissy fit in this thread should continue, if only for my amusment.

If by "community," you mean everyone, then the problem solves itself, since everyone agrees.

If by "community," you mean a large subset of the whole, then no, they don't get (within reason) to tell everybody else what to do. Those with minority values and/or lifestyles are part of the "community," too.

If by "community," you mean a large subset of the whole, then no, they don't get (within reason) to tell everybody else what to do. Those with minority values and/or lifestyles are part of the "community," too.

Minority rights, how does it work?

Ok let's stop right here. If we start comparing civil rights to knee high dresses then I'm going to lose my mind

Yes, and the LDS has never committed any violent acts against people. Isn't that right, emigrants and Native Americans at Mountain Meadows?

Apparently, the LDS grew out of the "violent fundamentalist" stage of fairly quickly. Islam has had, what, 1700 years or so?

The only reason Mormons are still not violent a-holes is because the army was sent into their territory in 1858 with orders to hang all the leaders if they would not calm down. A bit of rope, and a direct threat of violence against the leaders, has a way of moderating a religion.

If they had essentially remained their own country, they would be sitting off bombs in California.

OK, so why didn't that work for other religions?

Seriously, though, I think pretty much all organized religion is at some point a scam. Even if it doesn't *START* that way, it's too easy to pervert it into a money or power grabbing scheme. Think of the millions who've died because of minor doctrinal disagreements within Christianity. Islam is no different: Sunnis and shiates are at each others throats when they don't have others to pick on. Is that what Jesus and Mohammed intended?

On the internet, it's bad to express anything but approval for sex and promiscuity. If you don't like the great easy sex trend, you're a Victorian prude who probably can't get an erection.

However, out here in reality, a lot of us are getting fed up with sexual liberation. It didn't bring happiness; it brought a 50% divorce rate and constant date-rape.

Dunno if any of you have daughters. Do you want them acting like prostitutes? Or being a bit more chaste and having lasting marriages, happy families and normal lives?

Again, this is the internet, so I know the answer. But it's worth thinking about.

I actually watched a very good interview with the new Egyptian president with Charlie Rose on Bloomberg. If he is the type of Muslim Brotherhood guy I am suppose to be afraid of or angry with, it did not work. He was diplomatic and his opinions were well thought out. He admitted they would need Western tourism and dollars in Luxor and Cairo and Aswan. Mohamed Morsi interview was respectful and culturally informative. I won't be forgetting '9-11' anytime soon, but I'm not going to clutch my pearls either.

Hmm that swings both ways. Do you know my culture or understand it?

When I lived in the big city I happened to be walking down the street behind a passle of obese people with southern accents, toddling at a very slow rate while my (then) walking rate was considerably faster. While blocked by the gaggle, I overheard one of the countryfolk saying "Looks like one of them fruitcakes over there" (presumably in reference to an apparently gay man). I wanted to say "I see some crackers right here" but kept my mouth shut and managed to get around the herd.

Anyway, tourists making ignorant comments is universal. as per the classic example of somebody traveling abroad who make loud, rude remarks or otherwise act boorishly. The fact that you think "pseudo intellectual liberals" are the only ones who do it just shows your provincial nature, heheh.

I guess that statement doesn't clarify my disdain for said attire...

I'm not a fan of the Corporate Sponsored Daisy Dukes BECAUSE:

1. Girls over 18 never seem to wear them

3. They seem to be popular ONLY with the underage girls... not cool man, not cool...

I can't believe they were turned away by school administrators who were probably standing at the door measuring with a ruler how far above the knee each girl's hemline was. What a horrid way to ruin what should have been a very special evening for these kids!

Quite frankly, so am I.
