It's not really courageous for an ex-lawmaker to admit he sold out his own principles and beliefs to appeal to the fundie morality police assholes that voted for him.

It's akin to a Confederate officer writing in his memoir, "You know, I never really liked that whole slavery thing."

Courageous of him to take this position now that he is out of office. Doubt it makes up for the xenophobia.

He had the position 2 years ago when he ran for governor

Yes, it looks as if he has consistently held this position for many years. According to his Wikipedia page, FWIW, "While in Congress [1999-2009], Tancredo voted each year to attach an amendment [to the budget bill], which never passed, that would have prevented the US Justice Department from spending any money to "enforce any drug laws in contradiction to state law." So I was wrong to snark that he is just jumping on a bandwagon. He was also pretty tight-fisted with the taxpayer $$ (except to the military, etc.)

But his other positions are too odious to make him a viable candidate in my view. Not just the nativist jingoism but also the virulent anti-gay stance.

HST's Dead Carcass: Um, it's not legal here? Just earlier this year the news announced there are more Marijuana Dispensaries in Denver than there are Starbucks.

Just let that sink in for a minute while they continue to tell you it's not legal.

That was a completely made up statistic by the way.
