abhorrent1: created under President George W. Bush

Figures. This farking guys presidency is gonna haunt us forever.

This.

Triumph: MaudlinMutantMollusk: If ever there was a government agency that needed to be broken up...

/DHS was a horrible, horrible, knee-jerk reactionary idea

But, how can we evolve into a fascist state without something like the Department of Fatherland Security?

And these.

/2001: adding yet another layer of redundant bureaucracy will certainly make things safer
/2012: LOLWUT

Hey, I have a radical idea. Lets get rid of that gestapo sounding organiztion the Department of Fatherland, um, I mean Homeland Security and let the million other three letter agencies do their job.

AngryDragon: Wow. Today I learned that not having allegiance to either party but criticizing the incumbents makes me a Rush listener/FOX News watcher/looking for the liberal agenda conservative. Thank you for clarifying that.

I think you have a little froth on your mouth. Might wanna clean that up before leaving your basement.

Been at work since 6am EST... but thanks for that...

Just because you post a one liner about not being for either side, you follow that up with a paragraph tirade about liberals and democrats... and not just that, but your parroting a lot of Fark Conservatives speak like this, and yes, they are card carrying Rush fans and Fox viewers...

And yes, i take pleasure in pointing out how mainstream Fox news actually is.,,

I might have believed you were truly neutral had you followed up the tirade about liberal outcry with something about conservative outcry, like how conservatives were all gung ho about going to war in Iraq in the first place, but now are outraged that the current president went to pakistan and killed OBL...

Seems to me someone who was truly pissed at both sides, would biatch about both sides when they start biatching...

gozar_the_destroyer: dudemanbro: Yep, the very idea of referring to the "homeland" in a government agency has given me the creeps since the beginning. When that Dept. was first formed is when I knew we were well and truly farked. The funny thing is that the right-wingers would probably freak out if anyone wanted to disband it, despite their rhetoric about "smaller government."

You should see them when you suggest making DoD spending more efficient. Not wanting to cut it, just make the dollars work better.

I have voted Democrat my whole life...until now, I may change my registration to Independent permanently, but that is neither here nor there. It's not as if there are any viable candidates anyway.

It is completely legitimate to criticize the sitting president and his supporters however the fark we want, especially on silence over Obama's civil liberties violations. When Bush was in office I hated him most for the Patriot Act, the TSA/Homeland Security and the wars and I was not the only person (there was, to the previous poster's defense, much outcry about these offenses). Obama screwed the pooch on all of these things when he took over and there I actually expected him to be different, considering his campaign promises and his law and civil rights background. Do you really want to go out there and say Obama gets criticized for sucking at everything else in his Presidency so we should just shut up? You're not making a very good argument for his reelection here.

Nope, not at all, but certain cliche parroting is getting tired and old...

You present the problems in a manner in which is agreeable to me, you aren't frothing off about libruls, and you are actually addressing two sides and showing true neutrality, the previous poster claimed he was against both parties, then went on a rant about democrats and libruls...

I agree with some of his points, I think it would be GREAT if the system was set up to drop the incumbent a lot more frequently than it does... I can't and won't argue that

My problem from the very beginning is that his original argument and post started with a half-assed disclaimer about not being aligned to either party, then spent the next paragraph or so performing a rush limbaugh worth rant about dems and libs and giving a silent nod to reps and cons... Not a believable case for neutrality, or anti-establishment...

I tried pointing out that if you pull the quote he pulled, and looked at that quote only in it's conext, there is NO opinion except the readers. The author did a good job on that paragraph not injecting their own side, not even in a subtle manner. The author clearly states that it was created by one president and upheld by the follow up, it's a fact, and present without opinion or bias.

And I agree with you, the patriot act and iraq were the very reasons i voted against bush after voting for him in 2000, and if there was a GOOD candidate running against Obama this year i would vote against him as well.. because he expanded the patriot act instead of dismantling it, extended tax cuts, approved of a shiatty health plan that made my insurance coverage worse now than it has ever been.

So no, there's nothing wrong with criticizing the president, but he wasn't criticizing the president, he was criticizing the people only on one side of the spectrum while claiming to be of neither...

I know that you read the "FASCIST" part of the OP's quote as some sort of derp somehow mocking "libruls", but if you read through this thread there are actual farkers who still blame everything on Bush. I just saw his comment as an exaggeration of some of the comments from the thread. Anyway, not everyone who supports Obama is liberal. Some find him more gentle or caring or intelligent (he wouldn't do these things without a darned good reason!) whereas I'm thinking many voters just found Bush to be incompetent and bungling and maybe even malicious, so it was harder to forgive his mistakes. Some people may be afraid to criticize the Obama because of his race. I don't really know what the deal is. People probably aren't paying that close of attention.

Well the thing is, i do blame the people in charge during the bush years for a lot of problems... Fully supported Afghanistan, but did not support Iraq. I support gitmo, but not the patriot act. I think Iraq is the reason the Fed Gov went trillions in debt almost overnight. I wanted him out after the first term... Deregulation led to a fake housing bubble which popped and screwed over the people who make the money in the US...

That being said, we had someone who came in and promised us he would patch things up, especially with Wall street... but i lost faith when i found out in december that he took huge campaign contributions from goldman sacks in october right before the elections. THEN he failed to patch things up like he promised, so really, we aren't better off... my big dilemma is do i vote for someone who will not make the country any better? or vote for someone who is making the same type of promises about the economy that Obama did, but everything he says is a complete flip flop from his policies right up to his nomination?

I'll see how the debates go i suppose, but i think that's going to be a waste of time

A unified national security and intelligence apparatus that can make undesirables vanish without a trace and pummel dissenters into terrified submission? What could possibly go wrong?

Thanks a lot, Bushies!

/and thanks Obama for keeping it going strong
