I personally prefer this fine cover by the legendary 'i can play any instrument" Jon.

Love Gwar. This was beautiful. Like a sad whale song.

/Anybody know who covered Shellac's "A Prayer to God"?

They finally made that some tolerable.

Holy balls that was pretty good.

I clicked on the kid's profile but there were no more that I could see. Hopefully he does more.

LOL, not too shabby.

/Ain't no show quite like a GWAR show.

Never mind. It's Liturgy. I didn't see the links at the bottom. Well that was an interesting cover. Up next Portland Cello Project (whoever that is) covering Suicidal Tendencies then Trampled by Turtles covering Arcade Fire. I like the concept behind this project.

Ahhh... those were the days.

Nothing like tearing yourself to pieces in the pit, only to come up for air and get a facefull of blast from Slymenstra Hymen...

Ahh.. those were the days.

Yeah, that was definitely a good time, but I think GWAR just took the high score.

Have to say, Polyphonic Spree might be a frigging creepy ass bunch of cultists..... but they did a really good job with "Heart of Gold".

2012-10-02 08:44:27 PM
This was pretty funny, and also pretty darn good. I've been told that that's actually a tough song to play.

Depends on the version. The original album version at 5:25 was quite progressive, though a lot of that stuff wasn't on the single version at 3:26 and often doesn't get covered, especially when a pep band plays it. GWAR's was very faithful to the album version and lots of it was played at a faster tempo. Though on the spectrum of Kansas music, it's quite easy (except "dust in the wind", which is basically a guitar warm up exercise).

Don't really get GWAR (haven't bothered to try)....

Please tell me they know they're looking and acting goofy...
Please tell me they don't think they're actually scary....

farkingismybusiness: Anybody know who covered Shellac's "A Prayer to God"?

Yup. Liturgy covered it, and opted for a pretty nifty a capella version rather than go the black metal route.

Love GWAR. One of the very best live bands ever, since Lawrence Welk.

Funny thing is, GWAR is almost as old of a band as Kansas. They've been around for a long time.

/ Not long enough

GWAR: 1984
Kansas: 1970

So, yeah, GWAR has been around almost 30 years which would surprise some people, but, I wouldn't say they've been around "almost" as long as Kansas, although, the further away you get from the 70s and 80s, the more that will become "almost as old".

As I understand it, they have been known to play in plain clothes as RAWG, the world's greatest GWAR cover band.

You know what would be greater? If they went on stage under the name WARG, using each others' outfits and instruments, and playing covers of RAWG as they would have covered GWAR.
