I'm not your buddy, guy!

"Dear Guy, I clotheslined as you went by on your bicycle. You don't know me, but I'm the guy who broke your collarbone. Now, I've asked myself over and over, why did I clothesline that guy? Perhaps I watched too much slapstick as a kid and expected you to get up after being violently assaulted. Imagine my confusion when you did not. Although not so confused that I'd actually hang around. In all fairness, it was pretty funny. I mean, the last thing you'd expect as you were riding merrily by on your bike is that someone you didn't know at all would stick out his arm and crush your throat. I mean, you really should've seen it, it was just like, wham! Bam!
[chuckles]
Dave: Anyway... in closing, as you lay there convalescing in your hospital bed, I'm forced to wonder, what were you doing riding your bike on the sidewalk anyway? Huh, ya asshole? SideWALK? Maybe sometimes we bring heartache upon ourselves. Signed, the guy that collapsed your trachea."

Nothing amusing about getting doored-- it can be quite deadly.

Next time ya'll are biatching about cyclists taking the lane, you might consider how dangerous it is to ride in the door zone (death zone).

So fark you all very much--- my popcorn is ready.

Why o why didn't they green the matching headline with this one? It isn't nearly as funny now...

No, a true Canadian wouldn't have knocked the guy down and apologized. He would have counted coup and been proud of it.

No - roads are built to facilitate transporting goods, critters and people from one point to another. The vehicles used on those roads to actually carry those goods, critters and people come in all shapes and sizes. As long as the operator of said vehicle has the legal privilege or right to operate the vehicle on the road, they are good to go. It is your burden as a user of the road to SHARE it with other users - no matter what the vehicle might be.

You've got to be a little bit crazy and/or dumb to fling a car door open on the left side without looking (in a city anyway).

As much as I hate cyclists when they ride on the street, I hate them 10x more when they ride on the sidewalk. Every time one blasts by me on a narrow sidewalk, I want to kick out his back tire and watch him bounce his stupid skull off the concrete. Then I would take a piece of his broken bike as a trophy. But I never do,

Sigh.

Bruce: Well, why did you do it? Are you some sort of jerk or something? It's *my* front wheel! What did you think, that I'd -- drive home and not notice it was stolen? What are you then? Some sort of *prick*? Some sort of idiot? Some sort of thief? What would you do with just my front wheel anyway? What good would just one wheel be? You human loser! Well, why didn't you buy your own wheel if you wanted one so badly. That's what I did.

[Music starts as Bruce turns away and stops when he turns back.]

Well, don't you think I need that wheel? Well, well, what were you thinking? JERK!

If a driver gets pissed off because I'm safely and legally using the road, then that's their problem. I refuse to let the incompetence of others define what I do.

If they want to try to take it out on me? Then that's what criminal and civil courts are for.

They do enforce it around here but its guys riding in groups of 5 or more since they were the ones blocking traffic. One idiot douchebag yelled at the cops and got a free trip to jail, they even impounded his bike so he had to pay fees to get it released. Be a douchebag and block traffic that can go faster than 5mph uphill then you deserve to go to jail.

No the Canadians in their 20s aren't, the ones pissed me off the most while in Europe were Canadians and little Asian people who never grasped the concept of not blocking sidewalks or hallways. The Canadians were rude and crass on our train to Amsterdam that almost led to an altercation when they were making suggestive comments about my GF. Not to mention one of the train personnel had to tell them to watch their language after they moved to seats in an area with children.

Next time ya'll are biatching about cyclists taking the lane, you might consider how dangerous it is to ride in the door zone (death zone).

So fark you all very much--- my popcorn is ready.

Oh great, another incompetent motorist who doesn't know the rules of the road. Just what my commute needs.

o great, another incompetent & entitled cyclist who can't use common sense. just what my commute needs

You know what, I am entitled. Legally entitled to use the road. And unless you're one of those rare drivers who actually stop at stop signs and signal their turns, I'm a more considerate road user than you are. Please, just stop driving before you kill someone.

This is all true but you are in a lot more danger and should keep that in mind. Pissing drivers off will get you seriously injured.

If a driver gets pissed off because I'm safely and legally using the road, then that's their problem. I refuse to let the incompetence of others define what I do.

If they want to try to take it out on me? Then that's what criminal and civil courts are for.

Funny, you didn't respond to my riding double post. It's illegal in my neck of the woods but most, if not all, cyclist ignore it.

I would farking love to see the cops actual enforce that one.

It's kinda like they say about Americans and Brits. It's perfectly possible for an American to be rude accidentally, but a Brit is only rude when he means to be. Check out the Canadian war record in WW1, WW2 and Korea and you'll find that while on the outside we're a bunch of smiling nerds, that's just generations of repression and inferiority complexes waiting for an excuse to go all Smokey Smith on somebody's ask. Eh, chances are I'll survive, then I sue them so hard they won't be able to afford to drive for the rest of their life.

Last time I drove a car, which was yesterday, the roads were clogged with motorized vehicles- not cyclists. They were everywhere, slowing me down. Other drivers are the bane of my driving existence, not bicyclists. Just look at any freeway-- where cyclists are almost universally banned. Are bikes creating the traffic jams?

It is a rare event when a cyclist 'slows me down' relative to the 100s if not 1000s of other cars and trucks slowing me down. Funny how small minded people are so fixated on the outliers (cyclists) that they cannot see the real issue--- traffic problems for motorists are comprised of their own kind.

For those bullies advocating violence toward cyclists, it is no laughing matter- there are some real psychos out there (cyclists and motorists alike). I was on a quiet traffic-free street commuting to work at 6:30am, and a motorist deliberately tried to run me off the road (he started to pass me, but then tried running me into the curb). I jotted down his plates, but gave him a pass. A few weeks later he did it again in a different vehicle, and I had words with him, at which point he threatened to kill me if he saw me on the road again. Police were not interested in this matter, so I posted his plates on Craigslist, and some DMV employee gave me all sorts of information, including criminal history and legal judgments against him. Since the police would not help, I took matters into my own hands, knowing where he lived, worked, and what he drove. Sometimes karma gets a little help.

As I said, you never mentioned side by side cycling in your initial post, then when called on it you try to make that the issue. I don't know where your neck of the woods is, but where I live there are a lot of cyclists and 90+% of them are by themselves going to and from work or errands or whatever, they aren't lycra kitted douches riding road bikes side by side. You're just wrong.

Impede traffic???

Where in hell do you live? There is no law against impeding traffic in most jurisdictions. In fact, traffic itself usually impedes traffic.

Real cities usually have trucks double parked, horses pulling silly tourists, hipsters on underpowered scooters, buses moving unpredictably, and taxis driving like maniacs chasing down fares.

lolwut?
impeding traffic in oregon

granted, douche bag cyclists will cling to para. 2 - but that is up to some interpretation.

riding on major streets with no bike lane or shoulder at 7mph with a line of cars behind is impeding traffic IMHO - i'd welcome any explanation otherwise.

this is also especially frustrating in my town as it goes far out of its way to invest infrastructure $$ on bike lanes / bike boulevards (painting little bikes on a street to designate it's where bikes should be riding) that parallel the busiest streets, yet so few actually use them.
no, they'd rather be on parade making an ass of themselves and getting in the way.

If there's no bike lane, bicyclists are in their rights to take whatever spot they want in the lane. If there is a bike lane, though, use it. Oh, and stop running stop signs, going down the street the wrong way, and riding on the sidewalk.

I am super glad that I live in a place where people actually stop at stop signs and signal their turns. Well, at least in cars.

I've never seen anyone on a bike do the former and rarely do the latter. I've certainly seen plenty of them run into pedestrians while riding on the sidewalk, dash out across a cross-walk and expect me to slam on my brakes, cut through traffic, drive the wrong way down one-way roads, and blitz through red lights even when there's on-coming traffic.

Next time ya'll are biatching about cyclists taking the lane, you might consider how dangerous it is to ride in the door zone (death zone).

So fark you all very much--- my popcorn is ready.

roads are for licensed insured motor vehicles. go ride your bike with the other kiddies on the playground.

Please, just stop driving before you kill someone.

once you are done jacking yourself off, perhaps you'll realize how myopic you are.
however, that would require you to pull your head from out your ass, so i'm not very hopeful.

/you may be entitled to use the road, but you are not entitled to impede traffic. and unless you are one of the five cyclists on earth that can stop and start at lights and stop signs (i'll forgo you signaling, that is just too much to ask ain't it?) then you are just another jackwad douche out to do nothing more than be a pain in the ass of everyone else.

//please, just stop riding before someone kills you & has to have a moment of grief before continuing on with their life.

Looks like normal operation of a bicycle doesn't count as impeding traffic:

(2) A person is not in violation of the offense described under this section if the person is proceeding in a manner needed for safe operation.

I would love to live in this utopia. However, in San Francisco the drivers are far worse than the cyclists they decry. Drivers blow through stop signs and stop lights, including speeding around other drivers who do stop at stop signs or cross-walks. They speed, they don't signal their turns, they drive on the sidewalk, basically everything that drivers biatch about cyclists doing, I see drivers do every day here, and unfortunately, driving 2 tons of steel and glass is a greater responsibility than 20 pounds of aluminum. Well more than half the drivers here need to have their licenses revoked.

gosh, almost like i called it and everything

You can assert anything you like, however if you cannot safely share the road with slower traffic, you are not competent enough to operate a motor-vehicle, and that's not just my contention, that's the law.

So let me get this straight, you cannot control your vehicle, nor do you understand the rules of the road, and that is somehow my fault? Yeah, you're a real winner. I just hope you wake up before you destroy someone's life.

nice try but no

how bout: you are such a selfish prick that you feel that riding in traffic with no bike lane nor shoulder causing motorists to risk head on collisions to avoid your slow ass is somehow "safe". or in lieu of passing your slow and pretentious self, you feel that holding up traffic for miles is somehow a great way to run a city.

you are similar to the tea party people that like to carry their guns at rallies. sure, it's your right. but is it such a good idea? not so much.

sad when common sense takes a back seat.

You're in too much of a hurry to pass slower traffic that you would threaten not only traffic in your lane, but on-coming traffic as well? You really really should not be driving.

Guess what, the road is not your personal speedway, sometimes you have to slow down for other traffic and wait until it's safe to pass.

you are a gem
that you say this with no sense of irony is sickeningly beautiful

is difficult to understand how you can ride with your head so far up your ass, but hey.. good jorb!!

& wanting to go the speed limit =/= being in a hurry - sorry to break that to you. i'd be as irritated with someone who just 'didn't feel safe' driving more than 15mph -

if you can't do the minimum posted speed - you have no business on the street.

Seeing as you've already proven that you have no idea what the rules of the road are, I'll explain.

The speed limit posted on those signs you see? That's the upper limit, as in, you are not allowed to drive faster than that speed. If conditions or your vehicle prevent it, you are legally allowed (or in some instances required) to travel at a speed lower than the posted limit. Aside from limited access highways, which cyclists aren't allowed to ride on anyway, there is no such thing as a minimum posted speed.

I will give you that one, I failed to mention it.

That being said, the people that do that are still dicks. My neck of the woods is Boulder, CO. We just had a major race here. The street I live on I see cyclists go by every few minutes, have a few pros that live about a block from me (and jesus do they make a hell of a lot of money even before the endorsements). I have no issues with cyclist that obey the laws, but the ones that ignore them annoy the crap out of me due to the fact that they are not only putting themselves at risk, but my future as well because they want to chat with a buddy.

How are they putting your future are risk? Are you also saying that you are being "forced" to drive dangerously into head on traffic because of these cyclists? Guess what, them being douches doesn't make it okay for you to drive dangerously.

Interesting that now you say you have no issues with cyclists who obey the laws, for a while there you were smearing all cyclists and defending it because of the side by side douches where you live.

[sigh] I think you might be misunderstanding the point I am making. Driving dangerously? No. But causing major slow down issues on the road due to them, yes. What gives them the right to slow down multiple vehicles because they want to talk?

As to putting my future at risk, what happens if I attempt to go around them, possibly clipping one, or going head on into another vehicle? As I said, I have no issue with cyclist that obey the law. I also sited a well known cyclist on this site that can back me up on it. It's the assholes who ignore it and endanger others that I have a problem with.

If you don't understand that.. Well, I guess we are at an impasse. The laws are there for a reason. Regardless of riding a bike or driving a car.

If you are going to clip one of them or go head on into another vehicle then you are driving dangerously. Would you pass a car/motorcycle/scooter if you were going to head on another car or clip the scooter? Why do motorists think it is okay to drive dangerously because it is a bicycle slowing them down instead of another motorized vehicle?

I take it you have never been stuck behind a large group of cyclist? And yea, you can call this moving the goal posts:

Last year I was stuck behind a pack of about 30 or so on a mountain road trying to come down. If you want, I can provide a google maps location for you. Please tell me how the hell I can safely pass them when they are doing 15 in a 30 zone on a single lane highway.
