No, but if he's going to be extolling the virtues of his congregation like he did in the statement above he may want to tone down on the hyperbole and drama a bit. Just sayin.

Maybe it's because Michelle Bachmann stands for the exact opposite of tolerance, compassion, respect for individual rights, intelligence, and science and he found it offense that someone who goes against everything his congregation believes was present because she needed a photo-op with Jews.

Michelle Bachmann needs to stick to her little hateful Baptist churches in her little podunk town she actually represents.

Taking her idiocy on the road to churches in bigger cities or of different sects/religions isn't going to provide her with the slam-dunk photo ops that she thinks it will. In her bubble, everyone might be a right-wing Baptist nutbar, but not so much in the rest of the country.

I always find it out that Jewish people are often portrayed in politics about being very right wing. I mean tht may be true of recent leadership of Israel but most of the Jewish-American people I am aware of and know a pretty liberal and tolerant. I think it kind of shows people who live in a bubble and think of caricatures of other groups that don't actually interact with.

Bachmann made the critical mistake of thinking that Jews are like Christians and will support you if you believe one thing they do. In this case, she believed that her support of Israel would make the congregation support her. Jews don't work like that. We like to consider the whole package.

It really is. They didn't yell at her, they didn't tell her to leave. They were tolerant of her being there, they just didn't want to be in the same place as her. So, they left.

I honestly don't know where this idea that "tolerant" means "quietly accepting anything and everything" has come from. All it means is that you are inclined to accept differing opinions and beliefs, not that you will accept all of them, or that you won't speak out against the ones you don't agree with.

Yeah... Of all the days to show up. I can't imagine a more inappropriate one. And not even in your home district.

We're not a proselytizing religion. Most synagogues will welcome gentiles to their services, but we're not actively searching for converts. The holiest day of the year is a bad time to pop in especially if you are a non jewish controversial figure.

It strikes me as a bit of the evangelical hubris that comes from being in a position of power in an insular community. She really loves Israel. The whole movement has this hard on for Jews like we're biblical reenactors reminding them of the life Jesus must have led. They never think that we could care less about their Jew fetish.

On #4, it didn't say what time he sent it. Could have been after sundown. And his tweet was on Thursday.

That plus the constant g'shrei of "America is a Christian nation!" are the GOP's two best tactics to keep Jews voting 75-85% democratic every election.

(the fact that the Republican hate-mongering against Muslims and gays uses language lifted from the pages of Der Sturmer doesn't help the GOP cause much either.)

You wanna bet that Bachman is one of the fundies who thinks that we must support Israel because the prophesies say that Israel must be destroyed before the rapture?

Sorta like the Twilight Zone episode, "To serve Israel.... On a platter."

I'm no Bachmann fan (Goddess knows...) but it does strike me a little odd that the mere presence of her can cause someone to storm out of their synagogue. Neither the TFA or the Chicago Tribune piece it was cribbed from said she spoke or did anything in any way. I'm not telling Jewish people how to worship, but isn't Yom Kippur kinda supposed to be a time to acknowledge universal human frailties and the need for forgiveness--because we all make mistakes? Its one thing if she was giving a sermon or making a political statement, but can't anyone come to a synagogue for a service just to be there and sit there? It seems a little much than the mere presence of someone should be able to do this. To be overcome by hate to give hate power it doesn't deserve. Just IMHO, that's all.
