"The holiness of the room and the holiness of the evening was greatly diminished for me, if not completely destroyed," said Sircus, according to the Tribune. "Our congregation values and embodies tolerance, compassion, respect for individual rights, intelligence, science -- all of the things that I think Michele Bachmann stands against."

Ouch. That's gotta burn, Bachmann.

Oh Michelle Bachmann. Your ability to case butthurt even in the most tolerant and peaceful of places continues to amaze and amuse me. Keep it up, ol' gal.

No, but if he's going to be extolling the virtues of his congregation like he did in the statement above he may want to tone down on the hyperbole and drama a bit. Just sayin.

She didn't even speak. She just showed up and butthurt ensued. Listen, you were at a ceremony for religious extremists. Why are you mad another one showed up?

Maybe it's because Michelle Bachmann stands for the exact opposite of tolerance, compassion, respect for individual rights, intelligence, and science and he found it offense that someone who goes against everything his congregation believes was present because she needed a photo-op with Jews.

Agreed. They should be docile whenever their betters come to visit them, even when they embody the complete opposite of everything they stand for.

NowhereMon: I'm kind of surprised that there is a synagogue in her district

TFA says she was in Chicago, not her district.

I think its rude, IIRC Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, its a solemn holiday, its not a "celebration" holiday.

There is a really blatant joke that could be made here about Ms. Bachmann being such a horrid individual that she causes a group of people who are know for being rather thrifty to, instead, give away money.

I can't come up with the proper phrasing, but if someone else wants to grab the low-hanging fruit...

2012-10-02 02:25:13 PM
In Ms. Bachmann's defense, that IS her campaign motto.

Michelle Bachmann: You're doing it wrong.

2012-10-02 02:40:45 PM
For the record, I checked and there actually isn't a temple in the whole of the MN second congressional district.

If Bachmann can get the Jews to open their wallets with her mere presence then I might have to give a bit more credibility to her 'God talks to me' schtick.

2012-10-02 03:00:03 PM
I think it was good she was there, and the congregants should have been more accepting. If for no other reason that it was Yom Kippur, and Bachmann has a much to atone for.

I know she didnt say anything but if a canidate spoke at a religious place couldnt they lose their tax exempt status? Ive seen some churches that have all kinds of social/political litirature in the lobby.

you know, I think actions speak louder than words. though bachmann sometimes says unfortunate things regarding the LGBT community, she's an ardent supporter of LGBT issues in her private life. I mean, look at her husband.

Wait, what? I don't think that synagogue has a reputation for being religious extremists. At the very least nothing like that was mentioned in the article. Source?

Bachmann made the critical mistake of thinking that Jews are like Christians and will support you if you believe one thing they do. In this case, she believed that her support of Israel would make the congregation support her. Jews don't work like that. We like to consider the whole package.

I see no hyperbole or drama in calling out a politician for their political stances.

She's so horrid that the filthy, penny pinching jews actually gave away money instead of eating children.

Was that where you were going, sport?

At least she didn't give a eulogy for her campaign. She's a great eulogizer, and that synagogue would have been the perfect spot for it.

Siegel told the Tribune that the night's service had included a piece honoring Israel for its openness to the LGBT community.

Was Michele Bachmann in the synagogue hiding behind a burning bush?
