Almost everyone in Canada (everyone worth talking about) lives in a narrow band just north of the US border. The population density is the really cold parts is low. Really, really, REALLY low in much of it.

And you Americans are aware that Alaska is cold, right?

Oh just shut the hell up. I live near Vancouver and its a terribly small city that wants to be a big city without densification. So parking is 16 bucks a day for the 'prestige' of working there. I'd rather work in Whalley.

Can you imagine being one of the first settlers? Some boats go to the Caribbean, others go to South America, a bunch end up in the continental US, but nooooo your boat lands in what is now Halifax harbor. I would bet a lot of colonial wives were pretty pissed off at their husbands for having a hangover on the day they went and booked their passage.

Well you have to consider that Nova Scotia is actually south of Great Britain. I'm not precisely sure how the different air and ocean currents affect the average temperatures, but at least it's still a step up (down) from Merrye old england.
