They believe that it is God's will they are "fruitful and multiply" in order to enact social/political change through population increase. The overall planet doesn't have an overpopulation problem. Specific areas of the planet (Japan, India, China, Korea, etc) do have an overpopulation issue though. It would be like 100 people living in only 10 rooms of a 200 apartment tenement building and someone saying that the building is too crowded.

Area-wise, you'll get no argument from me. However, we are using natural resources (fossil fuels, water, forests) at unsustainable rates. The earth simply cannot sustain a population this large indefinitely - we were able to extend the population limit with the green revolution but agricultural technology cannot be expected to keep pace. Eventually we end up with a 'too many mouths to feed' scenario.

Remember that every one of those 1039sf plots of people space must be supplied with clean drinking water, sewerage, farmed food (both plant and animal), work and play. Look at the water pollution rates that have come with our large population, look at the greenhouse gas production, look at the overfishing and overuse of fertilizers to keep our billions of bellies full.

It takes a lot more than just a place to sit to have a human in modern society.

Now, their data and conclusions about birth rates are significant; Japan is already suffering mightily from their elderly-skewed population and the medical care for them... China will be far worse.

However, this video is for the most part a whole lot of correlation v. causation errors.

Perhaps, and this is a huge presumption about pheromones and attraction, this might be true if you are within very close proximity to the supermodel and this 'fertile' girl next door. When was the last time you were able to get within smelling distance of a supermodel? Its more likely the supermodel smelled your smelly farker ass and saw the Cheetos stains on your clothing and ran so far away.

mr lawson is right. You're assuming that the only barrier to comfortably having more people is that the tech hasn't caught up. In fact though, the tech will never catch up to certain areas of the population. That cannot be avoided.

actually, i find extremely fertile women the least attractive. knew this girl that got pregnant with pretty much every serious boyfriend she had. (she has some kids). that was the most unattractive thing about her. the knowledge that she was uber-fertile and I might get stuck with an unwanted life.

The US will not suffer the ill effects of overpopulation anytime soon. My city has gone from 1M to 5M in 30 years but the standard of living is high enough that only some minor conveniences have been lost. The problem is that half the world's pop are on the brink of some very real problems. Places like the Philippines and Malaysia are already in trouble. China and India will start having noticeable problems in the next 10 years or so.
