Do you live there?

No?

Do you pay taxes there?

No?

THEN IT'S NOT YOUR FARKING PROBLEM.

Crime rates in Maricopa County have gone down - and don't quote the American Voices survey, that 58% spike is in non-incorporated areas and away from population centers where a couple of incidents either way can spike the numbers.

So obviously, something is working.

Maybe it's not all Arpaio, but people like what he does.

Well those were DSS agents killed with the ambassador. They typically don't do investigation but I imagine they were there when the Marines showed up.

It was an outpost really, didn't even have a Marine detachment. Wasn't meant to be permanent.

There is no U.S. National Guard. Each State has a National Guard that can be called to duty by the Government. The organization you're thinking of is called the "U.S. Army"

That's the thing that always cooked my brain a little: each state has a National Guard.

Meanwhile, the Mexican congress (that just got voted) just passed a jobs reform to make Mexico's workforce 'more competitive'.

Some of the changes are:

1.- We're paid by the hour, not on a weekly basis
2.- Protest rights partially removed
3.- Outsourcing is permitted
4.- Employers do not have to give you a reason to fire you
5.- Employers can put you on a 'testing phase' indefinitely
6.- Employers can give you healthcare coverage whenever they want to

Oh, and LOL at using politicians jumping on board denouncing a hot issue as evidence of anything. As if its not their job to score points with public opinion and nothing more.

So tell me, what would have been the proper way to deal with gun smuggling? Do nothing? Thats so much better.

How come Arizona is a war zone but California, Texas and New Mexico aren't?

Water takes the path of least resistance, as do drug smugglers and illegal immigrants. The war zone sections are the areas it is normally easy to cross. As those get patched up, the trouble spreads to the fringes of those zones. As those get reinforced, the trouble will spread further, etc.

Is every mile a problem? No. Is every accessible mile showing signs of increasing violence? Yes.

They are, moran. But as displayed in numerous post here, people who don't know their geography like concentrating on Sheriff Joe and Arizona for their reference points. I brought up my friends and relatives in Arizona in a thread about an Arizona shooting.

My Father knows a rancher up in Oregon who had a Mexican foreman running things for him. We'll call him Juan. Juan did well for himself and the immigrantes that worked for him. Juan eventually bought a ranch of his own in Mex and paid the people that worked and lived on it a descent living wage - things were good for everyone -- for awhile. Not a long time later Juan was confronted by other ranchers in the region who told him they would kill him if he din't start paying his workers the same meager wages that they were paying their hacienda workers.

I said can't conduct military operations... Border operations would a military operations as a police action. I think if war were declared then by law they could of course be used as that would no longer be a police action. The absence of a declaration of war is the issue. Now... Foreign soil? No declaration needed. Obviously. (see Korea, Vietnam, etc, etc, etc)

zedster: netcentric: The FBI couldn't make it to Benghazi to investigate the under-secured Consulate for 3 weeks.....

cause you know we should just airlift domestic security forces to foreign nations without going through proper channels. Ever occur to you we couldn't make sure the site was secure for FBI investigators? Unlike in movies chances are the crime scene guys are not going to be armed to the teeth combatants, they need guards while they do their work. Also, how soon after was DSS on the scene is the real important question since it falls under their jurisdiction

"In cooperation with appropriate U.S. agencies such as the FBI and the CIA, DSS investigates the activities of foreign intelligence agencies directed against Department employees"

FBI had no problem getting airlifted to Tripoli. But ran into some bureaucracy with the US State Dept. And was stuck there.

So it was easy to airlift them to Libya. But for some reason the US could not secure the Benghazi site before, during or after the attack that killed 4. Why send them at all, if there was no 'security'.
IF DSS made it there, why not take the FBI?

Now, they have pulled all US personell out of Benghazi accordig to reports. In hinddight maybe we should have closed it in June like the British. Who apparently have a little more common sense.

Odd, It's almost as if someone did not really want a thorough investigation.

But that aside.... I'm sure that this Border Guard shooting will get an investigation. And then sit on the reports.

// 30 seconds or less is my guess.

I can always count of liberal farktards, especially those here on Fark, to respond to a tragic event by mocking people (in this case, Romney/Republicans), who have nothing to do with it. In their make-believe land, nothing is important except making fun of those who disagree with them, because that's all they can do. They are too stupid to actually debate opposing point of views, and that scares them and makes them feel insecure, so they lash out. And this is proven again, and again, and again, in just about every fark thread.

The irony meter just exploded.

The Untold Story Behind The "Fast and Furious" Scandal

Blah blah blah. I've never seen such concntrated stupidity as I do with opponents of the Fast & Furious program.

If you want to track the illegal smuggling of goods, you have to sell those goods through under cover operations. There IS NO OTHER WAY TO DO IT.

Nobody ever gets upset that undercover drug enforcement officers sell drugs while they're undercover... ITS HOW THE shiat WORKS.

If the criminals hadn't gotten F&F weapons, they absolutely would have simply sourced them from elsewhere. Its not like the Mexican mafia just suddenly goes "OH NOES THERE IS NO WHERE TO GET GUNS WHEN THE AMERICAN POLICE ARENT SELLING THEM TO US".

What a bunch of farking retards. God people are stupid and illogically emotional.

But after the under cover drug selling officer does his thing, it isn't used as an attempt to justify more restrictions against a constitutional right...

By 1918 the Yaqui people had been at war with Mexico for several years, the former hoping to establish an independent state in Sonora, centered around the Rio Yaqui and its confluence with the Gulf of California. Many Yaquis were driven north by the war and some crossed the Arizona border to work in Tucson's citrus groves. After receiving pay, the Yaquis would spend their money on weapons and ammunition and then return to Mexico to continue fighting. The fact that Yaquis were buying arms in Arizona and smuggling them across the border became so well known that the military governor of Sonora, General Plutarco Elías Calles, informally requested help from the United States government in dealing with the problem. Furthermore, Arizona ranchers began reporting in larger numbers their encounters with armed Yaquis on their ranch land or the finding of butchered livestock on the range. Since the United States Border Patrol did not yet exist, the task of protecting the border was that of the army, which operated out of Fort Huachuca. The Nogales, Arizona subdistrict commander, Colonel J.C. Friers, 35th Infantry, responded to the reports by issuing orders to increase patrolling in the area. American forces in the area included the 35th Infantry Regiment, stationed at Camp Stephen D. Little in Nogales, and the 10th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, who were spread out to protect the various towns near the international border. A squadron size force from the 10th Cavalry was encamped about a half mile from the 35th Infantry at Nogales and a second squadron split up to occupy Lochiel and Campini. Smaller posts were also established at Arivaca and Oro Blanco and, finally, a troop of about thirty men maintained a camp at Atascosa Canyon, a "strategic natural crossing" within Bear Valley.[1][3]

According to Colonel Harold B. Wharfield, who interviewed some of the participants in the Bear Valley fight and published his story in the book Tenth Cavalry and Border Fights, wrote that the camp was located in a dangerous "uninhabited region" where "unconfirmed mysterious disappearances" often occurred and people were advised to travel in groups.

Since drugs are illegal...
The question to ask yourself here is whether you want to work a day job for $1 to $2 per day, or if you want to run drugs for significantly more.
In this case, the answer was drug smuggling.
So now the question is "do I get paid enough to murder a US Law Enforcement Officer" vs. "What will happen when I go to prison and my boss finds out I lost a shipment?"
I honestly don't know, but I'm sure they can get at you in prison, and I'm sure your family wouldn't be safe. Or maybe I watch too much TV.
