FTA: "So the Tennessean took one of my posts and called it a threat to Barack Obama, which was completely taken out of context. My post from Friday was regarding the fact that the UN Small Arms Treaty, passed last week will undermine our Second Amendment Rights."

So in other words, he's just a farking retard.

The UN Small Arms Treaty would have and has zero, nada, no bearing on US constitutional right to own and possess a firearm legally. From Snopes: "The Arms Trade Treaty has nothing to do with restricting the legal sale or ownership of guns within the United States. The aim of the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty is to combat the illicit international trade of arms by "tightening regulation of, and setting international standards for, the import, export and transfer of conventional weapons" in order to "close gaps in existing regional and national arms export control systems that allow weapons to pass onto the illicit market." The text of the proposed treaty specifically "reaffirms the sovereign right and responsibility of any State to regulate and control transfers of conventional arms that take place exclusively within its territory, pursuant to its own legal or constitutional systems," so even if such a treaty came to pass, U.S. rights and laws regarding the sale and ownership of small arms would still apply within the United States."

All it takes is a simple bit of Googling to find this out. THIS is the kind of derp that has me voting entirely Democrat this election. The deliberate and flagrant spreading of misinformation and sheer paranoid lunacy. If you don't want to take Snopes, just look up "REID V COVERT" at which ever legal info site you care to view.

#1 - About that UN Small Arms Treaty. Failure to comprehend the way treaties and our own legislature works is an automatic disqualification for office.

#2 - Assuming his excuse is valid, which I do not believe, he should be disqualified for abysmal lack of judgement and good sense.

And that has nothing to do with his 2nd amendment right to compensate for a small penis.

the_immoral_minority: Anybody who trusts anything Snopes says pegs the DERP meter to FULL ON. I posted about the 3.8% Obamacare tax on selling a home and it states in huge letters "FALSE" !!!! Then you read the answer and it says, oh, it only taxes the capital gain on the house at 3.8%.....oh.... OK, my bad. What a bunch of shiat.

The claims regarding the tax *were* false, at least in all of the Facebook posts and forwarded emails I saw. They were claiming that the *entire* selling price of the house was subject to the 3.8% tax (which they often rounded up to 4%). The posts/emails then helpfully provided example figures which were wrong as well.

But I guess they couldn't muster the same level of outrage if they had said up-front that the tax was only on the capital gain realized from selling the house, and only if your joint income is over $250k/yr. Oh, and the tax doesn't apply to the first $500,000 of the capital gain.

Also, Snopes didn't simply label it "False" - it's labeled as "Mixture of true and false information".

Cast: Peter von Nostrand: He was just joking. Why can't you libs take a joke?

[media.townhall.com image 435x289]

We can take jokes, but the right wing has a bad track record with this sort of thing.

To be fair, I wasn't that bothered that they used targets on the map. To "target" something is a common idiom, and crosshairs are a common way of indicating that. No, what was so sad about that was that, rather than say "in light of recent events, it was an unfortunate choice of symbol, but it is a commonly used symbol that was obviously not meant as a threat" they instead tried the whole "surveyor's mark!" stuff. It was like a five year old who had been caught doing something wrong and couldn't come up with a decent lie.

It was sad.

If I judge purely by the articles linked on Fark, I would have to say that the primary purpose of Facebook is to allow idiots to identify themselves as such to the general population.
