murdoch's_weeners: /CSBI had a friend whose then-boyfriend began his proposal by making her think he was going to break up with her. She'd been crazy about him for years, they finally started dating and a year later, it was still clear to them both that she was much more into him than he was into her. So it was "funny."Anyway, the way she told the story: He kept repeating, "I don't want to be your boyfriend anymore" until she finally accepted that he was really breaking up with her. As she cried hysterically, he stepped in with a loving "I want to be your HUSBAND." And she joyfully and tearfully accepted the proposal. As she told me this story, beaming, it was all I could do not to show how disgusted I was. Happily, she eventually grew a sense of self-worth and divorced the guy. She now agrees with me that that proposal sort of epitomized everything that was so farked up about that relationship.
SpiderQueenDemon: Every general-aviation pilot I've shown this to has shaken their heads and predicted the messiest and goriest of divorces.
cryinoutloud: murdoch's_weeners: /CSBI call these kinds of things "Borat jokes" and I have never found them funny, and I don't how people do (especially if it's just you witnessing the "joke" between people you don't even know). Sure, maybe there's some warped people out there who think this stuff is funny--then go and play your jokes on each other and laugh your asses off. I don't think being humiliated, tricked, frightened, or scammed by someone who knows you is funny. Call me crazy.
Carth: MagSeven: So I take it that all of you calling him a douche and an asshole watched the video and are just going by his general appearance, right? Because the prank itself, wasn't bad or scary. They both were really calm and weren't panicked. It didn't look like he was trying to scare her, just have a reason to open the manual. Are you a pilot? Do you know how terrifying it is when controls stop responding or pretty much anything isn't working like it should?

jaytkay: She should have kicked him in the balls, told him to shove the ring up his ass and filed a complaint with the FAA to get his pilot's license yanked./ I don't approve, in case that was not clear
