I don't know, but I heard the Mets just signed Rick Vaughn.

What if a pitch from Dickey sails and drills him again? Or will he just get batting practice fastballs?

Against RA Dickey? YEa, thanks a lot *rolls eyes*...

At least Dickey isn't a high heat throwing type of guy, but it will almost certainly be a K

Dickey's a bit high on HBP, but nothing extremely unusual.

on the bright side, the odds of being hit in the head with a fastball are pretty low when facing Dickey.

2012-10-02 11:45:42 AM
He got beaned by a Marlins pitcher in the first place. Considering they're a mile out from contention, not a terrible idea for the Marlins to be the one to give him his at bat. I think the Cubs weren't interested because they didn't have a spot on the 40-man roster, so they'd have potentially lost someone in order to add this guy.

Since it looks like he's going to only pinch hit, it might not be Dickey.

It will be interesting to see how Ozzie uses him. Something moderately trollish I hope.

I think MLB granted a one-day contract type of situation for him. Essentially they can have him for this one shot without having to drop anyone from the 40 man.

Actually his fastball is low 80's, his knuckleball is regularly high 70's, often even 80's.

I loved this idea at first, but he'll be expecting it, so here's your option:
1. Intentionally walk him. No official at bat
2. drag his parents out of the stands and club them to death while he watches from first base

Sadly the Mets pen has no one even close to Dickey, save Parnell on a good day - and you can never tell when he's going to have a bad one.

Seriously, after Dickey's last win, Collins better be leaving him in there as long as he has a lead.

So... what's the point of this?

His statistical "plate appearance" would still count for any "I played in the show" benefits he would be entitled to... would it not?

I don't get how going 0-1 with a K for his career is any different than 0-0 with a 1.000 OBP.

Ah Dickey will be fine; even if it DID happen he'd have months to sleep it off during the typically long Mets off-season, and it's not like anyone else has a chance of swiping the Cy off of him. In fact, if there was any doubt in the voting that come-backer would cement his award.

A) Stupid of the Cubs not to do a PR move. I mean it was an excuse to potentially lose another game and improve in the draft AND get good mojo for it instead of more bad
B) I think the perfect situation is that he comes up with a guy on third and hits a sac fly. That way he stays perfect with no ABs but has a RBI. That would give him a second chance, great memory, and keep an amazing spot in history.

Good story, nice of Ozzie.
However, I have no idea how anybody can claim the Marlins had 27K a game attendance. I watched quite a few Marlins games this year and there was row upon row of empty seats in the outfield, it was also very spotty behind the plate and on the baselines. Unless that park sits 100K, no way in hell was that attendance figure even close.
