Anybody who thinks Ozzie Guillen is doing this out of the goodness of HIS heart is kidding themselves.

NationalHero: I want this guy to either hit one out of the park on the first pitch, or line a come-backer to Dickey's dome and spread the wealth a little.
Go Yankees!

Stay classy, Yankees fans.

"stay" implies an existing state of class

So... what's the point of this?

His statistical "plate appearance" would still count for any "I played in the show" benefits he would be entitled to... would it not?

I don't get how going 0-1 with a K for his career is any different than 0-0 with a 1.000 OBP.

/DNRTFA... 'cause ESPN starts yelling at me whenever I open one of their links.

In fairness, half the people in here are hoping that a guy whose only PA resulted in an injury that caused him to miss several years gets drilled in the head again. So it's not like he's being any more of an ass than the rest of the thread.

Ah Dickey will be fine; even if it DID happen he'd have months to sleep it off during the typically long Mets off-season, and it's not like anyone else has a chance of swiping the Cy off of him. In fact, if there was any doubt in the voting that come-backer would cement his award.

Somewhat, unfortunately. The O's & A's are making for exciting baseball regardless

Just for the comedy of it, I hope he goes down on three straight caleld strikes, never swinging the lumber.

Just so that Ozzie can go Mt. Saint Ozzie on him.

Ok, in this link there are three animated .gifs of Dickey throwing a pitch. Look at them in order ... look closely at this first one and guess what kind of pitch it was, then look closely at the last two.

Blew me away too.

Oh, a pinch-hit appearance? Against the Mets bullpen he definitely has a shot to go yard.

Dickey could have his worst game of the year and he'd still be better than anyone in that bullpen.

From last thread on this:
A) Stupid of the Cubs not to do a PR move. I mean it was an excuse to potentially lose another game and improve in the draft AND get good mojo for it instead of more bad
B) I think the perfect situation is that he comes up with a guy on third and hits a sac fly. That way he stays perfect with no ABs but has a RBI. That would give him a second chance, great memory, and keep an amazing spot in history.

Strike 2, swung on a bad one outside.

Strike 3, swung on a high pitch

Ozzie should say fark it and let him play out the game.

Good story, nice of Ozzie.
However, I have no idea how anybody can claim the Marlins had 27K a game attendance. I watched quite a few Marlins games this year and there was row upon row of empty seats in the outfield, it was also very spotty behind the plate and on the baselines. Unless that park sits 100K, no way in hell was that attendance figure even close.

The funny thing is Marlins Park was -intentionally- built with the smallest capacity in baseball (yes, smaller than Fenway) to keep their attendance (%) numbers high and, well...

That I did not know. Maybe they should have halved that number.

B) sac fly counts against average. He would get the RBI but he'd be 0-1

A) Cubs don't need peomotional stunts to sell tickets (the marlins do)

Nope, sac fly situations don't count as at-bats. He'd have 2 plate appearances but no ABs
