Why are we switching power rankings mid season? Im OK with Yahoo or ESPN or any other blog but we should pick one and stay with it. Either go back to ESPN or stay with Yahoo the rest of the season please. For the sake of the graphs.

You know who adds tremendous entertainment value to the NFL? Quarterbacks who can be spectacular, but are also prone to colossal, confounding, brain-melting mistakes. Jay Cutler and Tony Romo are probably the two best examples of that in today's game, so when they went head-to-head, you knew someone was going to go full Jake Plummer. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, it was Romo.

Wrong Jake.

Yeah it couldn't have been the fault of your coaches and GM who admitted they were running an illegal pay for play scheme. It was all that mean old Roger Goodell. He makes Breesus throw an interception a game and the defense give up 40 per.

Good luck with that persecution complex, maybe it will help get you through this season.

Persecution complex aside, I still don't get what the huge deal about the bounty thing was. Was it just the fact that it got discussed openly? I refuse to believe that this kind of thing isn't happening in pretty much every single NFL locker room; even if on no other level than a personal wager between two defensive players; effectively there's little difference.

The Falcons at number one. Really. They only won against the Panthers because Cam Newton was stupid and they got lucky. Meanwhile, the Texans are actually demolishing the teams that they're supposed to beat instead of barely squeaking by, but that only gets them a number 2 spot apparently.

Don't bring this level of ignorance here. There's literally thousands of articles you could read on top of hundreds of pieces of publically available evidence. You'd have to be living in a hole (read New Orleans) to not understand.

From the article on the 49ers:
Against all odds, Patrick Willis and the 49ers defense were able to stand up to the threat of Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow and eek out a win. The Colin Kaepernick plays were an interesting twist for the Niners. I wonder if we'll continue to see him get a decent amount of snaps in the coming weeks. Is a short-term offensive boost in the form of gimmick plays worth messing with Alex Smith's psyche?

This guy apparently didn't watch the game because the 9ers did not eek out a win against the Jets. They destroyed them in every aspect of the game. Offense, defense, special teams, not looking like biatches and not having to share a stadium. Also there was absolutely 0 threat from Sanchez or Tebow and there hasn't been since the first game of the season. This guy is a horrible writer and needs to be fired.

3. Arizona Cardinals (4-0)
Last week: 1
I have to throw some respect Kevin Kolb's way. I wasn't tremendously nice to him last week, but he did hit the Dolphins with 324 yards and three touchdowns this week (two interceptions, too, but they only get a parenthetical because this is supposed to be something nice). Maybe more importantly, he captained a tremendous last-minute touchdown drive and forced overtime with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Andre Roberts that kept the dream of 16-0 alive. I almost typed that with a straight face.

1) someone had us #1?
2) as BS as power rankings are, 3 is too high. We were outplayed in the first half and could have lost that game quite easily. I refuse to apologize for the Seattle win (which some seem to still be arguing that we should have lost) or the Patriots miracle, because that's the NFL -- a play here and a play there and you lose -- but #3 is too high.

also, please quit invoking "neutral field" to justify power rankings. The NFL only plays "neutral field" games about once a decade due to natural disasters*, so please stop with the "WHARGARRRBLLL, ARIZONA / VIKINGS, NEUTRAL FIELD, I DON'T TRUST ARIZONA", "RAWWWRRARRARRRR, TEXANS NINERS, NEUTRAL FIELD, WHO YA GOT?!?!?!?"

*circa 2004, the fires in san diego moved a Miami @ SD game to Phoenix. and of course the 2005 Saints split their "home" season to neutral fields such as houston texans (??) and didn't they play some "home" games in Giatns stadium?

the issue is why the saints are not doing well this season. because goodell.

that's not a persecution complex. that's an explanation. if the saints had their coaching staff and full roster, they would probably be doing much better. no one is even mentioning why their coaching staff and players are missing. that's immaterial to the discussion of performance.

2012-10-02 11:38:57 AM

rickythepenguin: *circa 2004, the fires in san diego moved a Miami @ SD game to Phoenix.

I remember the game was at sun devil stadium, and instead of charging full game ticket prices, the NFL asked fans to donate for fire relief / charity, and the shiathead fans walked in for free. the total amount gathered for a game with as I recall, spotty attendnace (place holds about 65K, they drew in the mid 30s as i recall) was a really, really paltry sum, like $20,000. a black eye for arizona!
