The shots were probably editorial filler for an article and shelved without being used. It's fairly common.

I just couldn't get over the highwaters on ol' Chuck. I know it was the style of the time, but still!

Peanuts was a very depressing cartoon. I wish I hadn't read so much of it when I was a kid.

Yeah, making a million dollars a month in the 1960's will do that.

I loved the Christmas special as a kid, never understood why the strip was so popular.

That happens when you relate. If you'd had a normal upbringing, you would simply be amused by the antics of the stupid awkward failure boy. But you didn't, so the strip is just a mockery of your life.

Have a nice day.

I had family that lived near him. Santa Rosa where he lived used to be freaking amazing. It's still OK, but it's not the same place it was in the 1970's.

But that's the thing about opinions. I don't have to do anything at all in order to have one.

For some reason, I don't mind the slide shows on LIFE. It's not like they reload the friggin' page every time you click to the next pic. Why do they do that anyway? Bump up the page count? Reload more ads?

I was a big fan. We went to his ice rink and museum a couple of times. Wish I could have thanked him for all the good stuff. His "First Beagle On the Moon" was wonderful - supposedly Neil Armstrong and the rest of the Apollo guys were big fans. I was a long time before I got the joke where Snoopy is calling Mission control then says "OK, How about Petaluma?"

Mr. Shulz was an OCD freak. He died with a set of meter-long fingernails after entombing himself within a gigantic winged doghouse which he constructed entirely from photographs of French actors.
