(Courier Mail)   Instead of saying the iconic line, "I'll be back," Arnold Schwarzenegger argued with James Cameron that he should say, "I will be back" because it sounded more masculine. These are the things a Hollywood actor dwells upon   (couriermail.com.au) divider line 13

Egoy3k: Yeah and using a 3/4" UNC bolt rather than a 1/2" UNC bolt are the things engineers dwell on whats your point?

Yeah, 220, 221. Whatever it takes.

I can just see it now.

"I will be back...I WILL be back...I will BE back...I will be BACK..."

What if the Terminator just watched ET in his hotel room before going into the police station and his onboard menu told him to say, "I'll be right here"? That would have been some epic shiat.

actually, i think the line would have been much better if he had said "i'll be right back." most people say it that way. so it would have sounded a bit more natural, and also in retrospect would have been funnier.

Data agrees.

That was a silly plot point wasn't it? Android with a positronic brain, can make near infinite calculations per second and can't use contractions.

My personal favorite is he has no emotions, but he has a desire to experience emotions as if desire could possibly exist in an emotionless being.

As he acknowledges in TFA he's not a native speaker of English and there's some subtleties that will always elude us in other languages (I wouldn't be able to do anything near that in German).
That said the point he raised is a good one and "I will be back" sounds more robot like, but Ah-nuld should have sought a second opinion from another well educated native speaker rather than just making up his own mind. But that's Mr Schwarzenegger for you.

"I'll be back...stud!", said with one finger to the cheek and a raised ankle, followed by "Tee-hee!".

Considering the pronunciation winds up sounding like "Aisle Be Back"

I much prefer "I WILL be back"
