stevarooni: dittybopper: Plus, they accessorize like a friggin' AR on steroids. Pretty neat, I must admit, and as you all know, I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to projectile weapons.

*groan* Don't remind me about AR-15s. Those things are painfully addictive. "Fun gun! All I need is a scope. Oh, I can get a quad-rail handguard? Excellent. Oh, and I've got to get the single-point attachment plate. Is that a red dot sight? It must be mine! Oh, and the .22lr upper...and maybe a .50 BMG upper...." As a non-enthusiast friend of mine said, "It's the Mr. Potato Head of guns!"

I was joking with a friend one time about his AR, and he suggested that I get a "tacticool flintlock", which I must admit would be a hilarious joke.

What a tacticool flintlock might look like.

dittybopper: stevarooni: That's sound reasoning, yep. I know a few gun enthusiasts who won't let their kids have (non-shooting) toy guns for the same reason. Guns must be respected...not feared, but definitely respected.

I agree, except that I have no problem with my son having things like Nerf guns, and engaging in Nerf battles with his friends. He knows the difference. He understands the permanence of death, also, having helped bury our cat that died. I insisted he help. My parents shielded me from the reality of death as a youngster, and I don't think they did me any favors in doing so.

My respect for you as a person and parent keeps growing.

Why not?

He takes bold, decisive, individual action.
He's not afraid to take risks or make his opinion known.
He flouts conventional behavior in the pursuit of his goals.
He gets results.

Perhaps he should run for President of the US?

dittybopper: There is a certain logic to that. For example, the littlebopper got a .22 on his 8th birthday:

i47.tinypic.com

He knows the rules, and he doesn't get unsupervised access, but he *DOES* get to shoot a real gun, subject to being watched like a hawk by myself. When he wants to look at it, he can, but again only when closely supervised. Otherwise, it sits in the safe, and I have the key.

I don't want him shooting that thing anywhere NEAR me! How the hell is he gonna shoot that thing blindfolded like that!??

For those of you saying you did not know a pellet gun can kill..

A few years back here in Boulder, CO a woman shot at a buck (deer) that was nibbling on her rose bushes. The pellet missed the ribs and entered the heart. Dead buck, hefty fines for her killing a deer in city limits.

Confabulat: Why do the people in yonder remote Alaskan village paint their houses such bright and garish colors? I mean, I can sort of see why but is that why?

So you can find them in the snow.

Big_Fat_Liar: The regressives got beaten so badly in the 2nd amendment national debate that they now resort to really pathetic attempts at humor to make a point, and at any perceived opportunity - perceived by there own warped selves. Awesome. Anyone advocating for infringement on the Bill of Rights deserves the pathetic life they probably have.

I firmly believe in, and will defend to the death your right to own any single-shot, muzzle-loading, black powder pistol or musket you choose (though I will expect you to muster out with said weapon and a quantity of shot and powder and iron rations on the courthouse green whenever the church bell calls the milita to action). What? You want to own MODERN Firearms? Sorry, that would require me to believe that the Constituion is a living document and that the meanings of words can change with time rather than being a rigid reflection of no more or less than what the words meant when the Founding Fathers wrote them. And that, as Justice Scalia recently told us, is Heresy and Error

Not only that, but any word or even character not in common use at the time is outside the protections of the 1st Amendment.

Honestly, I've *NEVER* paid for TF. It's *ALWAYS* been sponsored, largely due to my idiocy.

Scalia's rules, not mine. I think Scalia has begun to suffer from dementia, personally. But your analysis works only if you beleive speech is limited to both English langauge (not supported by the writings of the founding fathers who initially wanted Hebrew to be the offical language of the US) and the printed character. Whether it is broadcast, using electronic means or not. Speech is absorbed the same way, through the interaction of the ear and the brain, ergo any method of speech delivery that delivers its message in that fashion is clearly in the ambit of the original intent of the 1st amndment. To the contrary, a modern firearm delivers a totally different projectile at a very different velocity to that of the firearm they envisioned

Can I retain the haircut? It comes in handy when trying to shift the blame for dumping, erm, *STUFF*, in the harbor.

No, the gun did not "go off". The little piece of shiat aimed the gun and pulled the trigger.

The haircut? sure. Not so sure about the musket though, as I think we've got you penciled in for Recon/Scout/Liason with the Friendly natives, so You might need to go "bow only" for stealth reasons
