How do you do? I find myself in deplorably impecuniary circumstances and would be much obliged if you would be so kind as to assist me out of a quandry with a pittance to supplement my remuneration.

Indian begging is very competitive and a good begger needs an edge, especially with native Indians who have hardened themselves against the constant assault (sometimes literal) of beggers. A country with 100,000,000 middle class people and 900,000,000 extremely poor people is either Begger Hell or Begger Heaven, depending on your point of view.

Even in Canada I find that on sunny warm days you can't walk down the street without a hand out on every corner. If you give to all who ask, you'll end up paying more to walk than it would cost to take a taxi, so I have eliminated some of the long term professional beggers and give mainly to the not so persistant individuals.

Some observations: there are no Asian beggers. Two, there is only one black begger in the entire downtown area. In rural areas, the only beggers I have seen are outside the Liquor Store on pay day. It saves them time when they spend their take at the end of their working day.
