Canadian politics is so boring. I would find it more interesting if these politicians weren't so human and approachable. You can literally arrange to meet with these guys and talk to them if you want. Where's the intrigue?

Anders deserved to be called much worse.

The horror. I never thought the Canadians were capable of such inhuman madness.

I certainly hope Dudley Doo Right and his cadre of Canadian Mounties stormed Parliament in the name of the Queen of the Commonwealth, and arrested this fiend for his crimes against the crown and humanity.

Rob Anders' (the dickhead in question) wikipedia page is quite the read - Link

Whereas the guy in the video, Peter Stoffer, Maclean's magazine named him "Most Collegial" in its annual Parliamentarians of the Year (voted on by fellow MPs) awards in 2010 for the second consecutive year.

I like the question at the end: "Sorry, what did you just call him?" Reporter couldn't believe that an MP would call another MP that. Although, to be fair, Rob Anders is a dickhead. And, amusedly, the MP didn't shy from repeating it, so kudos to him.

Anders is a vile piece of shiat. To call him a dickhead is an insult to dickheads everywhere.

Are you kidding? Canadian politics has not been this exciting in a long time. Our leader is a ruthless right-winger who promised corporate supporters that the country would be "unrecognizable" when he was done with it, and survived a minority parliament by making every important bill trigger an expensive election if it was voted down. His cabinet are as crooked as a dog's hind leg, corruption and bald-faced lying to Parliament run amok with zero accountability. The most honest and well-respected opposition leader in recent history died suddenly just after winning a record # of seats, and the other opposition party will likely be headed by the son of Pierre Trudeau, our most loved/hated Prime Minister ever.

I would work in different communities every week and to get acclimated on the politics of where I was I would watch the evening news.

Lead story in the States was always someone got shot, someone got stabbed

First time I was in High River lead story was "Children accidentally flushed puppy"
With a picture of firefighters, kids, and safe puppy.

2012-10-02 07:39:42 AM
So he called him a "dickhead" on camera? Someone, help me out... by Canadian-level politeness standards, this is basically the American equivalent of Stoffer telling the Bob Saget Aristocrats joke at Anders' daughter's sweet sixteen party, while drunk and naked- right?

Since this is a Canadian thread

Can anyone explain why it was so easy to buy an American Confederate flag license plate or sticker in most Canadian hardware stores?

Rednecks who think they are "Rebels." Also, it doesn't have nearly the same level of controversy around its use here as it does in many parts of the US.

I grew up in the country on the east coast and knew plenty of redneck dumbfarks who decorated their trucks, bikes, trailers, etc with it.

I seriously doubt any province issues license plates with a Confederate flag graphic symbol, Ontario doesn't.

There are stickers available at corner and hardware stores, but as to why people buy them I don't know. I'd guess that for one, they're cheap (probably made in China) and we have racists and rednecks too.

Still, it doesn't do to just blurt it out like that.

Bad form is bad.

That's funny. After hearing stoffer speak for 15 to 20 seconds, I immediately liked him. He just came across as a really decent person, the exact opposite of 99 percent of politicians in NA

Ah ok.

I was mistrustful of Canadians at first
First time in Canada plane touched down in Halifax, the pilot couldn't see the end of runway and aborted the flight like on an aircraft carrier, back over the clouds in less than 3 seconds.

Next day making conversation with a local in Truro:

"I didn't know Nova Scotia was an hour earlier than eastern standard time."

Canadian said "in Newfoundland time difference is "1 and 1/2 hours"

1 and 1/2 Hours!
suuuure shifty, Timmies drinkin', hockey playin'
like there's a place that's an hour and a half different.

I saw a pickup truck flying a HUGE (like 2m long) Confederate flag off a pole on the bumper... in Guelph Ontario. It was the ugliest, douchiest thing ever. Truly baffling.

I really do wish the younger Trudeau luck with his efforts. After all, he did the boxing thing, and called Peter Kent a "piece of shiat" in the house of commons. He could be the most interesting Liberal leader in a long, long time.

Yeah I live in Halifax, the airport gets pretty damn foggy. Apparently the site was selected because it had the least fog cover in an area close to metro. When they built the airport the loss of trees and such changed the micro-environment so that it now gets some of the most fog in the area.

And Newfoundland IS pretty far east.

RockofAges: Newfoundland actually DOES have its own time zone. And it is a half hour ahead of AST, so 1.5 hours ahead of EST.

I'm aware of this.

There are only two Parliaments I am willing to watch, Britain during election season and Australia, mostly because they both seem to do away with any veil of civility between the parties and just have out their issues on the floor.
