dwade: Proud I have a 2 terabyte external hard drive full of porn. I've done the math, if you assume im gonna fap once a day and it takes me 15 minutes, it will take me 37 years to watch it all.

My fapathons usually last 2 to 3 hours.

...the things I've seen.

Teufelaffe: JackieRabbit: Here's one thing I have never understood. Like most people, I have found that just about any search phrase can be used directly or modified to return gobs of porn. But in all my time on the internet (since there was an internet), I have never come across any kiddie porn. I've never seen a kiddie porn lovers discussion forum either. Do kiddie porn aficionado have some sort of underground network and if so, how do they find one another?

The only kiddie porn I've ever encountered was when I read a Congressional report on pornography in the late 80s, and when I worked for a web hosting provider (a lot of people don't seem to realize that the folks at their hosting company have full access to everything they upload). I've never encountered it "in the wild", as it were, so I also have wondered just how it gets distributed.

I actually did a google image search of "disney" at work and something that was def too young to be legal popped up.. needless to say I had to turn my filter settings up...

hundreddollarman: Step 1: Go to Google Image Search.
Step 2: Type in any woman's first name.
Step 3: Fap. Rinse and repeat.

I remember when "Natasha" would return only porn when safe search was disabled. And then later it became a mix.

At one point I wondered if Google had a secret option to give only the results that "safe search" would filter, and none of the "safe search" results.

blatz514: Cheron: cman: Step one: go to http://www.google.com enter the name of a popular website wrong.

for example instead of typing biblestudy.com make a slight typo of hotsluts4u.xxx, just a slip of the hand

College prof did that during class. Misspelled something and bam, porn. Best day of school...EVAR!

In the early days of GIS you'd get kiddie porn often.

Usenet used to have a few shiatheads that posted tons of nude children (mislabelled too) in all sorts of binary boards. They're pretty much why I stopped using usenet, since I didn't want to get caught with that stuff.

Didn't want to get caught with, eh? Interesting choice of words. Why don't you have a seat right over there.

Not sure if you were just referencing a meme to be funny, or missed his legitimate point.

In the bad old days of usenet, people would post images encoded as text across multiple messages (posts). But modem speeds were sluggish, and finding, downloading and reconstituting the multiple posts needed to stick together a 92Kb jpeg was tedious. A common strategy was to leave a bot running that would just download all of the posts for hours on end and then sift through its results. Problem was, you would point it at a Star Trek board or birder (birdwatching) board or what have you and come back later to find that proto-4chaners had made you an unwitting felon. If you weren't on top of your sifting, someone might find something you didn't even know was there.

Once the web and broadband were common, I was all too happy to ditch usenet.

Bashar and Asma's Infinite Playlist: JackieRabbit: Ah, see and this is my point. The places where this stuff is to be found are monitored by the government. The users have to know this and avoid the network. I guess proxies help, but they can't help too much. My guess is most of it is obtained off the net and then traded, but it is only a guess.
You have to use TOR to access the .onion network, so ostensibly it's anonymous, however I'm not a network guy so I have no idea what is or isn't traceable. You can have a kilo of heroin shipped to you through some of those sites, so I assume there's some measure of protection.

Never heard of this .onion place, and I guess I won't be checking. I did find some bestiality stuff once by accident--I was searching for domestic violence, got onto a site that had women getting beat up, with links to women having sex with animals. I was so shocked that I looked at some of the pictures, and yup, it was definitely women having sex with animals.

But that's still not as bad as kiddie porn. I've never found that by accident. Granted I don't look at porn much.

cman: Dead for Tax Reasons: there is something other than porn on the internet?

Believe it or not, the Internet was originally designed with military applications in mind. Then big business and academia became involved and the military handed the network off to civilian control. Porn has played a significant role in the commercialization of the Internet.

/The Moar You Know

You are very young, or very naive.

Long before business and academia became involved, what really boosted the Internet was BBS filesharing of porn. That took place right after DARPANet was invented and many many years before normal humans even knew "the Internet" existed. There was a wonderful time when all you could get on a BBS was porn, weapons schematics, porn and credit card numbers. Which were used to buy porn.

Businesses and colleges didn't get involved until about 1994-95. Before that, if you could find anything except porn on the Internet, it was because you were a hacker.

You are correct. I fail to factor in the role of the BBS whenever I talk about its history. Yes, the BBS was instrumental in helping to shape what the Internet was to come.

The site has gone downhill lately, but there's a website called DOMAI (nsfw... does that even need to be said?) that I have actually paid for access on for a brief interval of time, because I had some disposable income and because I believe in their philosophy. Or did... as I said, it's gone downhill a bit lately.

A friend of mine was a hot-shiat post-doc about......1992, and I remember her biatching about how sad it was that all the "regular people" were getting on the internet, and how it was so much better when only the academics could use it. We aren't friends anymore. She only hangs out with people who have at least PhDs. Why, I didn't even get on Fark until 2002.

I remember back in middle school in the early days of google, google had loads of domains with increasing amounts if o's in the url (ie; goooooooogle.com) that redirected to google.com. One of the url's instead lead to porn, our computers teacher accidentally found that redirect in the middle of class one day. In short. You don't need to look for porn on the Internet, it's there, it's waiting to ambush.

Let me guess, you're asking "for a friend", right?

No, it's a serious question. We hear about kiddie porn and we hear about guys getting busted for it all the time. But I've never met anyone into it and the media never seems to talk about how these guys feed heir habit. This has to be the most shadowy population of people in the country.

I guess that is a curious question, just not one I've ever really pondered.

I've always been curious what the market is for kiddie porn. That is to say: vs the risk of getting busted and going to Turkish Prison, why peddle in that stuff? Do kiddie fiddlers have a lot of money to spend on their kinks? Sharing free kiddie porn seems to be a way to go straight to jail, so i just have to assume that it's a bunch of child molesters sending other people's baby pics or something.

Good question.  I do remember when most (free) porn was available via usenet... there were groups that were confined to kiddie porn.  So it was easy to avoid.

Although I am surprised that, in the 15 years I've been on the Internet (and used it for porn all that time)... that I've yet to at least find some arsehole posting stuff as a joke just to try to get in trouble.

I didn't notice any huge influxes of clueless newbies on Usenet until AOL and similar services began offering their portals. Prior to that, the technological hurdles were high enough that even the non-computer science types were still pretty technologically literate.

I did see a second "bubble" of newbies who showed up when web sites started acting as portals to Usenet. If you didn't know any better, the sites just looked like web-based discussion forums, but they were really just gateways to a single Usenet group (such as rec.audio.cars). A lot of the kids didn't understand the "unmoderated" aspect of most Usenet groups, so they'd threaten to sic "the mods" on us if they felt they were being treated too harshly.

Man, I miss seeing postings from elderly WebTV users whose brains didn't work well enough to hold a whole thought during the length of time it took to type a sentence using a TV remote (if they hadn't paid extra for a keyboard.) It was usually something like "I would like to complain about I like mittens." You could see their brain taking a nap around the fourth or fifth word.
